Got to the hotel from Trondheim airport with the Vaernes Ekspressen bus service that stopped at the "Solsiden bus stop" almost right in front of the hotel which was very convenient. The location is just outside of the centre of Trondheim but you´ll be right in the action after a 10 minute walk. At the bus station lots of other local bus services stop so the hotel is easy to get to.

Arrived here for a two-nights stay and received a warm welcome at the front desk. A small store is right next to the front desk (in the room they say it replaced the mini bar). Booked a superior room and got located at the fifth (out of six) floor. Elevator works with the room key only.

The room was nice, located at the corner with windows on two sides which gave the room and very nice impression full of light. The bathroom was huge. I liked the wooden floor. Everything clean and well maintained. They had an iron and a fridge in the room.

Had a very good nights sleep in the comfortable bed. Although it didn´t get too dark at night due to the sun being that north, you could darken the room enough. Hotel was very quiet inside though you hear one or another loud traffic on the main road outside.

Breakfast was included and located on the second floor. Roomy area with enough tables. Lots of good choices, fresh bread, cereals, salmon and other fish. I liked it a lot.

Apparently the are also rooms facing the inside of the hotel. You could see them from the breakfast area. I wouldn´t have liked that.

The hotel has an open terrace on the fifth floor, unfortunately without good views, but one could enjoy a warm evening up there. Right next to the hotel is the Solsiden shopping centre with a large supermarket. Some nice restaurants are also right next to the hotel.

I liked the place a lot and would most probably return.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are larger, try to avoid getting a room that faces the inside

This hotel is just outside the old centre of Trondheim, which means a stroll to the Cathedral from here will add 5-10 minutes to your walk. But it IS right next door to the revamped and hip docks and bay area that offers several popular restaurants, bars and besides shops at the adjacent Solsiden shopping centre. The hotels restaurant is only open for breakfast on weekends. Good sleep (even though the wear in the rooms is beginning to show). Scandic Hotels have an ambitious environmental policy (like everyone else these days), but this is a poor excuse for shrinking the bathroom towels to half the size they should be!
But what really makes this Scandic establishment stand out is the breakfast. Instead of the canteen grub offered at most Scandic hotels this hotel makes it own scrambled eggs (instead of the powdered mix stir usually served), there is local produce sausages, crisp thin bacon etc which means breakfast TASTES something.
Helpful staff at front desk also informed of the special rates for hotels guests at nearby restaurants. A nice gesture for everyone familiar with the cost of eating out in Norway these days.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the upper floors, there is a great panoramic view of the city from there.

I just spent a night at this hotel in Trondheim. The room was big, clean, comfy, quiet, nice bed, good tv, nice bathroom. The atmosphere of the hotel is very relaxing and inviting. But the real reason anyone stays at this hotel (and so should You) is the hotel breakfast! It's been awarded "best hotel breakfast in Europe" many times, and I think it truly deserves it! It's truly fantastic! If you're considering a hotel in Trondheim, look no further!

Stayed here for one night, but if felt like two days, since I arrived in Trondheim at 7:00 am and they were able to check me in already around 8:00 am. Was expecting to check in the afternoon! A new-ish, very modern, simple but a quality hotel with Scandinavian style. Everything was clean, nice, well worth the money. The hotel interior is very stylish! Nice, service-minded personnel, great breakfast, not too crowded - can say nothing but recommend! Also, if you decide to stay here you may end up seeing a bit more of Trondheim you otherwise might. It's in a new "trendy" neighborhood by seaside, called "Solsiden". There's a large shopping mall right outside, and many restaurants and cafes. Don't forget to take a walk by the seaside, it's very nice out there! Also, if you like working out, this hotel has a deal with a nearby gym - you get a free day pass. From the Central Railway Station, the hotel is maybe a little less than a kilometer away - a walkable distance if you don't carry heavy bags.

This is a good, modern hotel, with good service, good breakfast, nice rooms, but no more than what one would expect.

The hotel is located 15-20 minutes walk from the center but close to the "sunny side" with a smaller shoopingsenter and nightlife options and restaurants. Much charm here in the summer.

Good breakfast and friendly staff at reception.

I stayed there for 4 nights in January. I am frequently in Trondheim, not always at the same hotel. Scandic Solsiden hotel looks nice, it is very centrally located, the busstop for the airport bus is just 50 m away.
I had a heating problem in my first room (too hot, heating couldn't be turned down). After two complaints, I was given another room, which was fine. Heating can only be controlled via television, which was annoying. Room was okay, quite small, but clean and the mattress was good. Strange thing: the cleaning staff just leaves the bin liners, you have to insert them yourself into the bin.
TV - mostly Norwegian channels. Internet worked fine.
Breakfast buffet was good, esp. the different choices of bread, but I had better in Trondheim. I found the breakfast room very stylish, but somehow 'cold' and uninviting.
Overall, the hotel is okay. What I didn't like was the staff at the reception. With one exception (she was nice) they were largely 'cool', short and didn't really make you feel very much. They didn't tell me that you can train for free at the fitness studio nearby (you have to ask) and were generally reluctant to offer information.
I also found the hotel a bit 'stingy'. In most hotels in Trondheim you get free coffee and tea in the lobby (sometimes also fruit or sweets), others have kettles in the rooms. Not so the Scandic. You can buy coffee or tea in the small shop next to the reception. It is not very expensive (NOK 15), but it would be nice if they offered them for free, as other hotels of similar quality do.
I won't stay again here, there are nicer ones, such as the hotel Augustin, where I always felt very much at home.

I returned yesterday from a 4 day trip to Trondheim staying 3 nights at the Scandic Solsiden hotel. I had read very good reviews here, so i told my travel agent to book this hotel and i did not regret that!
The room was very very clean and quiet, it had a big comfortable bed, iron (!), you could adjust the room temperature from the TV (!), it had a small fridge, the bathroom was also very clean, with heated floor, so the overall room experience was quite good.
The breakfast was quite nice, there was a variety of things to choose (even caviar) - but no espresso/capuccino machine :(.
The hotel was located in a nice area, next to a shopping center. The bus stop to and from the airport is at the Rica Nidelven hotel across the pedestrian bridge - 5min walk, so i guess it's ok.
A few things that could be improved are: the pillows are quite soft (i don't like them quite soft), the TV is an old CRT model (i don't watch TV so it didn't bother me, but it is smg that does not fit well to the eye). Furthermore, although the bed was a double, it had 2 separate very narrow blankets (instead of a large one). Although i can understand the choice of 2 blankets instead of one, they were too narrow and i ended up using both of them in a complicated way so that i could cover up myself.
Overall experience was very good and i would definitely go back to that hotel!

Dear Elias M

Thank you very much for rating your stay at Scandic Solsiden as a great stay.
I'm also happy to read that you had a good room experience and liked our breakfast with a variety of things to choose from.

You missed some cappuchino/espresso coffees and I will use this feedback whwn we evaluate our coffe machines in the near future. We will replace all our TV - sets in 2013 and this will improve the guest experience even more.

Im so sorry that you had problems with the blankets. I will look into this. If you would be so kind to send me an e-mail so that I can get an even better understanding of the problem I would be very grateful. My E-mail adress is: truls.hoff@scandichotels.com.

Thank you again for the review and welcome back to us at Scandic Solsiden soon.

Best wishes
