Look no further. This is the place to stay. In the heart of Trondheim right next to the Blomsterbrua (Flower Bridge) and an easy walk to the Fish Market and shopping at Solsiden.
The hotel is new and clean, but the best parts are the friendly staff and the convenient location. Oh. And the breakfast.
The breakfast is the best in all of Norway and I've never seen its match in any of my travels. There is an entire section of only fish--smoked fish from different areas of Norway. Another section for meats and cheese, another section for patisserie, another for freshly baked bread, another for fruits and yogurts, and still another for coffee, lattes, and tea (complete with your own barista). Set in a pleasant environment with friendly staff who will serve your coffee and juice, it was just a spectacular experience.
The hotel is centrally located and is within walking distance of my favorite restaurant/market in all of Norway--the Ravnkloa. It is a fresh fish market where you can buy fish, but you can also sit outside and order from the menu. Bacalao is a Norwegian specialty that you CANNOT miss. It is a red stew with potatoes, olives, and cod. Trust me on this. The restaurant is only open in the summer, so hopefully you are lucky enough to be traveling then.
Solsiden is a shopping area with restaurants and cafes. There is a jazz club that is my husband's favorite (he lived in the area for many years) and a coffee house called Choco Boco that is mine. Do not miss the fresh hot chocolate made with chocolate shavings and hot milk.
Also within walking distance is Nidarosdomen, a cathedral that should not be missed. Also, the king's summer palace is nearby.
There is so much to see and this hotel provides access to it all. They also provide free bike rentals.
There is one drawback to this hotel--there is no parking on the hotel grounds. You must park at a public parking place two blocks away. For me, that is a big drawback, but the many benefits of this hotel more than made up for it.
