Stayed here summer 2012 with my husband and 11 month old daughter. The staff arranged for us to have a crib set up when we got there for our daughter and even hooked us up with a large room with a nice view at no extra charge. The rooms are really nice and the hotel is in a great location right on the Nidelven river in Trondheim. Of course, the best part of this place is the breakfast. I can honestly say the breakfast spread is the best I have ever seen at any hotel. The list is too huge to mention but it would probably be easier to list the stuff they didn't have. Everything was fresh and tasted great. I only wish I had a bigger appetite because it was just not possible to try everything. Yes, this place is a bit of a splurge but we honestly found it worth it, if nothing else for the breakfast alone.

Sure, the hotel is nice, rooms and bath clean and well appointed, architecture interesting (although it's a far walk to the "outer" rooms of the hotel, which is in two parts). Location is not bad, either. However, the breakfast makes the stay worth it on its own. Just make sure you have enough time to enjoy it - several baristas, local delicacies, 20+ kinds of bread etc etc.

Convenient location for transport links, railway station and port both within walking distance. Also easy walking to town centre with a good selection of restaurants. Rooms on the small side but very clean as was the rest of the hotel.
Now, that breakfast. My wife thought I was lost I spent so long on my selection. Really everything you could think of in a buffet breakfast including Buck's Fizz.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in February 2013.
I reviewd this hotel one year ago, and not much has changed. The location is still superior, and the breakfast is the best hotel breakfast I have ever tried. Staff is extraordinary, and the experience is special in this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the river/canal. I had a room facing the road outside, and it was a bit noisy...

This hotel is located in the center of Trondheim. A normal buisnesshotel, but with the biggest and most delicious breakfast ever! Just the breakfast is why I always try to book a room at this hotel when in Trondheim. Be sure to have enough time to enjoy all the local delicatesses that they serve.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during a visit in Trondheim. The hotel is within a 5 min walk from Trondheim Central Station and is very easy to locate. The hotel is about a 10 min walk from the city center and is close to Rockheim, the National museum of pop and rock music.
The hotel also supposedly offers Norways best breakfast and have won the national prize for seven years. You have to try it!

This was the perfect choice for our stay in Trondheim. Having considered the Clarion (brand new) we were very pleased that we opted for the Rica.
The Clarion is just that little bit further out towards the dock and on the wrong sides of the railway tracks...literally.
Everything about this one ticked the boxes. It's a very very comfortable and clean 4 star (compared say to a Four Seasons) but it has everything you need for a relaxing stay.
Most memorable moment. I sat in the cosy bar which juts out into the river and watched amazed as snow billowed down from 3 sides, pianist singing, beer in hand...bliss!!!
That was until I ordered a double whiskey only to be told that this was "illegal in Norway"!!!!
Can you believe it? The suave bartender turned his back discretely as I emptied two single whiskeys into one glass. But really. And that's after paying a small down payment on a mortgage for the privilege.
Norway. You have to sort yourself out. It's state control to North Korean levels while masquerading as a liberal place.
I'll give a Nobel Peace prize to the first Norwegian minister who stops treating alcohol as if it's crack cocaine. It's ironically turned the entire nation into a bunch of closet alcohs.
None of this is the fault of the hotel mind. We were upgraded to a river view despite there being a daily computer geek fest in the main lobby.
The "best breakfast in Norway" lived up to its billing and if I hadn't been so hungover everyday I might have done it justice. But to all you clean livers (in both sense of the words!) you should leave a little space for it at night.
Trust me. If there's anything you don't have to pay for in Norway...grab it!!
Location wise it's right next to the modern but wierd singing bridge! Then you can find all the decent bars on the street behind the shopping centre about 4 minutes from the front door.
Returned from Norway nearly bankrupt so I hope you appreciate the sacrifice.
Not surprisingly my next trip was to Cairo...then maybe Bangladesh...then maybe Ouagadougou.
Anywhere but bankrupting one-shot whisky-drinking Norway.
Apologies to any Norwegians injured during the making of this review!!

Room Tip: Try for a river view.
