I was staying At Clarion Hotel & Congress Trondheim in the middle of the festival season. Hotel wasn't fully booked and the atmosphere was relaxed and in a way practical. This is not a luxury hotel or a design hotel, but it's better than average Scandic or Rica or any ordinary chain hotel.
Because of it's location, there's no buzz and vibrating nightlife unless there's a special happening at the hotel. The area is somehow in the middle of development and not very nice to stroll. Next to Clarion is Norway's national rockmuseum Rockheim and on the other side there's a "water cathedral" Pirbadet, a communal spa. A pedestrian bridge over railway connects the area to the town.
The best thing in this hotel is a Skybar at the rooftop. Views over the fjord and to the town are stunning. At the summertime if the weather is beautiful the outside terrace is the best place seeing sunset.
Breakfast buffet is excellent but in a typical Scandinavian way the healthiness and practicality overruns the joy of having breakfast.
So no thrills, but neither you can't be disappointed if you are not waiting for a luxury experience.More
