Owner description: Rockheim is the national museum of popular music. Since the museum's opening in 2010 there has been a steady stream of visitors eager to learn about norwegian music and its history. Music is a source of enjoyment. It creates a sense of belonging and offers new experiences. But it is also a vital source of knowledge of ourselves and our cultural history. Behind the scenes, Rockheim's staff is engaged in managing and researching Norway's pop and rock music, and in making it accessible to the public. The visit to Rockheim begins in the spectacular "Top Box". From the main exhibit on the 6th floor you proceed down floor by floor. The music and stories are communicated by means of interactive exhibit technology and objects from the museum's collections. You are welcomed by Rockheim's guides, who will be your hosts and will answer your questions about the exhibits.

The architecture of the building is interesting and attracts attention. The museum is interactive with helpful staff to assist you to experience all that it has to offer. The history is Norwegian based so unless you are familiar with these artists it isn't that appealing. The exhibits are more teenager focused and I would not recommend for an adult-only audience but good if you have teenagers with you.

“Must visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

Impressive building which changes colors during night. The museum itself is very good prepared for English speaking visitors. Every part of the exhibition (Norwegian music in 50s-00s and one special part about the black-metal) is interactive and you have to touch and play with things :o) Also one floor is full only of the music instruments which you can use and try to be a rock star - drums, guitars, DJ sets.... Also the museum shows actual view on the music scene in Norway.

“Rockheim Rocks!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

Rockheim is a museum that puts a great amount of value on interaction. There are all sorts of things to interact and play with, and many of the exhibition spaces are very cleverly put together. You don't really need an understanding of Norwegian music but I imagine it would be more fun if you had some idea.

“Great for tourists from everywhere (including Norway)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

Rockheim is interactive museum, with a rocking theme. How can they go wrong? It's the most technologically advanced museum I've ever been to, and I was very happy to see they've made the exhibition quirky and fun to discover. Some things are not too user-friendly, but the staff is available for you for questions, so that should be OK. Highly recommended for tourists from both Norway and everywhere. The high point is not the theme (Norwegian Rock'n'roll) but instead on the fun and interactive display.

Oh and as a sidepoint - the concert venue is OK. Beer is usually quite expensive (earlier this month, october 2012) it was ~€10
