“Hotel with a nice location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

During my visit last year, I found the hotel as tired and outdated. Back in the 80ties, this hotel was one of the best in Trondheim. The hotel has a central and good location next to the river. Finally a renovation campaign has started. The outdated bath rooms have now been with new nice bath rooms, however still with the same low pressure in the hot water system. The rooms have nice beds, but the rest of the room is still the same old style. Hopefully this renovation will also start. The offer some good summer rates which also shows there are some strong competitors in the area.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing east towards the river.

Stayed here during a very busy time - Aquaculture 2013 - but the hotel seemed to manage with the high number of guests. Unfortunately, they are renovating at the moment so there is scaffolding up and drilling during the day. Despite this, the staff were generally good, the breakfast plentiful and delicious, and the fitness area really good (with pool, hot tub, steam room and gym - although I was too heavy for the treadmills to work at 'just under' 16 stone...).

The hotel is handy for the airport bus - make sure you get the right one (the one which drops on the doorstep of the hotel, not at the bus station, which is a couple of blocks away) - and is in a great location for walking around the city. The famous bridge and cathedral are less than 5 minutes' walk away.

The rooms are a bit dated and the views from most strange (as your window looks into the hotel, or if you are on the 6th floor, looks onto the slanted glass roof) but still, for the price - less than £100 per night - this was excellent value in an otherwise expensive city.

If you like to drink, I'd suggest buying your beers from the nearby supermarket (opposite BurgerKing) rather than pay 95 Norwegian for a pint in the bar!!!

The breakfast was very crowded, maybe we came on a bad time, but it was difficult to find a free table so we had to wait for about 15 minuttes. The room was ok, but for the price it needs to be renovated. The shower was too low mounted on the wall so I had to bend down to get my hear washed. The parking was very expensive.

Extra bed not in place though it was ordered in advance. Impossible to control temperature in the room. Very dusty on the floor. The parking is expensive, but this is obviously connected to its very central location.
The beds where good, and the breakfast as well.

Had we known in advance about the huge renovation taking place in this hotel, we NEVER would have stayed there. Our room was smack dab in the middle of it, with removing of furniture, wall fixtures, crowbarring, drilling, workmen, etc on both sides of us and above us. When we went out, we had to squeeze by piled furniture and equipment. Really awful. We went on day two, when we realized it was not workable in any fashion, and demanded another room out of the construction zone. We had to be forceful in our "request", but it produced another room in another wing. That was very helpful, although we were still in a lesser construction zone with hallways covered in brown paper and workers present, although to a lesser extent. By the way, the hallways remind me of my high school gym locker room.

The reception people were very helpful in all other matters. I thought the hotel would have been very nice under different circumstances. The reception and breakfast area were very nice. We had so much family in Trondheim that we never got to the restaurant in the afternoon or evening, or the exercise room. The rooms were small, but nice. Our first room had a view of all the construction stuff, but the second had a little corner glimpse of the boat dock and water. I think the hotel is overpriced, but what in Norway isn't? The air conditioning was terrible in the first room (it was probably not functioning at all) and better in the second, but still not very effective. The location is wonderful, within walking distance of everything.

The locked parking under the hotel is very expensive, and the credit card I accidentally left in the center console of the car was used 5 times the day the car was unused and in the locked facility to purchase Star Wars online games. In a locked car in a locked facility that has your car keys, it would seem that the only person who could access the card is an employee. We are still investigating who used the card, which was cancelled immediately. Thank you Chase for noticing! The hotel and the parking are different entities, so the hotel is not responsible for the parking.

I would probably, after renovations were completed, stay there again, but not until I was very sure that it was completely done. The hotel had no hesitation in putting us in a horrible situation, and we were not warned of the renovation. Find out before you stay there! My ratings below are what I would think of the hotel without construction going on.

Room Tip: Only rooms away from construction if you insist on staying there. Twin rooms don't have views. D...

Stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a trip to Trondheim for Europa League football. Business-class Room had recently been renovated. Facilities were excellent (including free widi throughout the hotel) and staff very helpful. Breakfast was a bit disorganised due to part of the dining room cordoned off as they replace the windows but that was the only minor issue. Would stay here again.

The hotel is undergoing renovation. It's one huge construction site. No information at all about this at time of booking. Only rooms with one single bed available due to this. 100% guest satisfaction - I think they are kidding. Stay away!
