“Massive Renovation Underway”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Had we known in advance about the huge renovation taking place in this hotel, we NEVER would have stayed there. Our room was smack dab in the middle of it, with removing of furniture, wall fixtures, crowbarring, drilling, workmen, etc on both sides of us and above us. When we went out, we had to squeeze by piled furniture and equipment. Really awful. We went on day two, when we realized it was not workable in any fashion, and demanded another room out of the construction zone. We had to be forceful in our "request", but it produced another room in another wing. That was very helpful, although we were still in a lesser construction zone with hallways covered in brown paper and workers present, although to a lesser extent. By the way, the hallways remind me of my high school gym locker room.

The reception people were very helpful in all other matters. I thought the hotel would have been very nice under different circumstances. The reception and breakfast area were very nice. We had so much family in Trondheim that we never got to the restaurant in the afternoon or evening, or the exercise room. The rooms were small, but nice. Our first room had a view of all the construction stuff, but the second had a little corner glimpse of the boat dock and water. I think the hotel is overpriced, but what in Norway isn't? The air conditioning was terrible in the first room (it was probably not functioning at all) and better in the second, but still not very effective. The location is wonderful, within walking distance of everything.

The locked parking under the hotel is very expensive, and the credit card I accidentally left in the center console of the car was used 5 times the day the car was unused and in the locked facility to purchase Star Wars online games. In a locked car in a locked facility that has your car keys, it would seem that the only person who could access the card is an employee. We are still investigating who used the card, which was cancelled immediately. Thank you Chase for noticing! The hotel and the parking are different entities, so the hotel is not responsible for the parking.

I would probably, after renovations were completed, stay there again, but not until I was very sure that it was completely done. The hotel had no hesitation in putting us in a horrible situation, and we were not warned of the renovation. Find out before you stay there! My ratings below are what I would think of the hotel without construction going on.

Room Tip: Only rooms away from construction if you insist on staying there. Twin rooms don't have views. D...

Stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a trip to Trondheim for Europa League football. Business-class Room had recently been renovated. Facilities were excellent (including free widi throughout the hotel) and staff very helpful. Breakfast was a bit disorganised due to part of the dining room cordoned off as they replace the windows but that was the only minor issue. Would stay here again.

The hotel is undergoing renovation. It's one huge construction site. No information at all about this at time of booking. Only rooms with one single bed available due to this. 100% guest satisfaction - I think they are kidding. Stay away!

The hotel is under renovation, no info of that until we were there. But as this was sat to sunday, no noice for us. Just ugly boards on the floor and som restricted areas. The location of the hotel is great, and the big windows overlooking the canal, the arcitecture of the place, and the swimmingpool and gym all makes for an ok stay. The straff were friendly, the room clean exept for my pillow witch unfortunately had a bad smell. Breakfast were no more than average, and I missed a waterboiler in my room, perhaps I could have asked for one ? All in all I think this is an ok hotell.

You can see that this hotel ones was great. But now some parts is in need of renevation. The entrence is ok, the front desk ok, the breakfastroom ok - And the breakfast starts serving at 0630, perfect for me as i were going to work at 0700.
My room was old fashion, tv without "wakeup" - But, by all means, i sleept nice and i dident need anything more.

Room Tip: They have smooking rooms, don't take one - it's better to go outside!

If you expect to find happy and friendly staff and be made to feel welcome at this hotel, it won’t happen. This hotel was in the midst of a major renovation when we stayed there and it is a pity that the hotel has not carried this renovation through to an overhaul of the staff working there. In the two weeks we stayed there, there was never any attempt to greet us and each day it felt like we were unknown guests. It is was interesting to us that there was never any management to be seen, so perhaps this has some bearing on how the staff behaves. One gets the feeling that the staff there only works because they have to and not because they enjoy it. However, when front desk staff was ever approached with a request, they did respond in a friendly manner.

The hotel is comfortable by Nordic standards and the renovations are making a huge difference. However, the facilities still need a good clean and areas that may be relatively difficult to reach, but still in easy view of the rooms appear not to have been cleaned for years. The exterior of the hotel is all windows and these had not been cleaned since the winter (or earlier). Sitting and having breakfast in the morning and looking at a lovely view of the river through filthy windows says it all. Breakfast is pretty ordinary anyway and the staff working there definitely adds no cheer to the start of your day.

The best thing going for this hotel at the moment is the location, but note that there are quite a few really new and nice hotels as neighbours, so there is still a choice. In spite of my criticisms, my stay at the hotel was still fine, but could have been great if the staff had made any effort.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra to get a Business Class room.

I was only in Trondheim for 1 night on business, however this was my second stay with them. It's a bit unusual as in lay out inside, however rooms are great, service is great and the breakfast is really really good. It's perfectly located, right on the water and within walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: One thing to mention, it's rare these days however they do offer smoking rooms for those who car...
