“Fresh fish market and a snack”

Ravnkloa Fish Market
Ranked #61 of 274 Restaurants in Trondheim
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: Seafood, Norwegian
Description: The Ravnkloa web site is in Norweigian but many words are easily translatable. The market is mentioned in Lonely Planet as one of the three best seafood markets in Norway. Ravnkloa is a traditional fish market w many varieties of fish for purchase. This is largely a place for locals to purchase their seafood. The market also has prepared selections for take out and also will prepare some selections for eating there. We had the best seafood in Trondheim while there. We went for lunch everyday and sampled the traditonal fisksuppe, fishcakes, cod fish balls, etc etc etc. Even cod tongue which tasted so much better than it sounds. This entry is not meant to be published as a review. This was to suggest that you list it for future travelers to Trondheim. If you list Ravnkloa, please let me know and I will write a review, all of which will be 5 stars..... Thank you

You can visit Ravnkloa fish market, just to look at the local seafood, buy fish to prepare at home, or just buy a sandwich or bad of fresh boiled shrimps.

The times I've tried eating here, the food on display is nothing special. You can get the same frozen at the grocery store. It's very expensive for what it is. The harbor next to it is much better for getting fresh fish (you just have to cook it yourself). There are local fishermen selling fish directly out of their boats (right in the same Ravnkloa area). You can find sei, cod, etc and shrimp when it's in season. The fishermen usually pulls out live cod or sei for 30 Kr/Kg. I've even bought live crabs for 40 Kr/kg.

Is it a restaurant, or is it a fish market ? Finally, both of it. Directly located on the Trondheim harbour, and just a short walk from downtown, you will find a huge variety of all kinds of seafood, absolutely fresh and attractively presented in a tremendous layout. If you like to savour anything directly, they are having a nice menu to chose from which is reasonably priced. But if nothing suits your taste, the nice people certainly will prepare something from the counter you have chosen individually. Seating is limited, but directly in front of the sales area so you may watch locals while shopping and learn something about their preferences.

This place is a charmless modern building, a bit like being in a supermarket really. They do however have about a dozen tables where you can eat and drink.

The fish market part is well stocked with all you would expect in a Norwegian port town. Locals coming and going buying whatever they need.

The menu is quite limited, probably three main dishes, one which includes fish soup. The people working on the counter will come and serve you at the table and cook up the dishes using the ingredients on display.

We had fish soup which was very very good. Three of us with soft drinks came to 600kr.

I'd recommend this place for a tasty snack or light lunch. I can see it filling up quickly during the summer. When we were there in March most tables were empty.

This is actually a fish market and the food sold here is on a limited menu. At first, one feels that all that is on display can be selected to be served.Though both are under the same roof, there is nothing in common. I didn't eat there this time but I did in May .
