Only downside is expensive and poorly prepared food (be it hamburgers or pasta), as they don't seem to properly train the youth working there over the summer.

Children are destined to have a great time in Dyreparken. It's a zoo, an aqualand, they have restaurants, and they have different shows in the evening. The food can be really tasty, but is in general fairly unhealthy. The prices are high both for entrance and inside the park, and the experience is likely going to be expensive.

The Kristiansand zoo is a great day out for both adults and children, but, if possible, try to avoid the peak season as it will be full of large families with a million kids running quite wild.
Nevertheless, even during the peak season the park never feels packed because it is so spread out and with plenty of space between the different animals.
In addition to the traditional zoo animals there are plenty of play areas to suit kids (and some adults) of all ages. If you come here with young uns I would reccommend two days to cover all of it without rushing.
It is perfetly fine to take food with you and you can borrow carts to wheel around your stuff and kids. If you do not take food with you there are several places to eat, and the quality is surprisingly good. If you enjoy baked goods you must visit the bakery in the Kardemomme By area.
We enjoyed in particularly the Nordic wildlife area and spotted the lynx with its kitten, the wolf pack with the puppies, wolverines playing around and a couple of mooses chilling in the sun.

Kristiansand Zoo, the park has it all. A wonderful zoo with exotic, Nordic and common animals. Amusement park and water park with everything children could wish for. One day is not enough for you to see everything. Recommended especially feeding the animals in the Nordic wilderness park, then you will see wolves, lynx, moose, owls, fox and more. Feeding at set times - when you get to see the animals up close. I have yearly passes in the park that I visit most of the year, best is outside the peak season in July if you want to avoid long queues.
