If you look for elegance and style, go for somewhere else. This is rock and roll kitchen, either you like it or you hate it. I loved it and have visited the place several times. The restaurant is always full. They accept no reservations (at least they say so). they open at 6 o'clock. If you hope for a table, you have to show up and announce your interest at least an hour earlier. The place has approx twelve seats, one (or two) chefs and one waiter. They serve only one set menu (10+ courses) for Nok 1190,-. I would recommend the wine menu in addition. It consists of excellent wines in massive quantities. The service is very informal. The food is always fantastic. Be aware, after you have finished, you will be able to do one thing: go home and sleep!

We went here at 445pm, having read the reviews that said to get there early for a table. We sat in the bar area and waited till 530pm when they opened. There was only one other couple that was seated in the room with us at first so we could have taken our time getting over there instead of rushing like there would be a long line. It was a Thursday night, so maybe that's why it wasn't crowded.
We were seated in a small, cozy room with about 8 tables. We were treated very well by our server who immediately brought champagne for those who were drinkers. A word to the wise, don't have a drink in the bar before you go in here because you will have plenty of wines and refills. Pace yourself and don't get the refills of each different wine at the beginning or you will leave and not remember paying the bill or how you got home.
The champagne followed with the 1st of the 10 courses and was 2 raw oysters served with lime, spicy bloody mary cocktail sauce (yum!) and pickled chopped red onions. loved this course!
2)white riesling with fried breaded frog legs with garlic aoli sauce.
3)white wine with halibut tartare with avocado, teriyaki sauce, pickled seaweed and pomegranate.
4)Italian red barbera de alba (oh so good!), with chorizo with muster type sauce with king crab.
5)" wine, soup with asparagus, mussel, perch, shrimp and caviar. (delicious!)
6)red wine from Tuscany, thin pork chop, red fish, prosciutto, fried chicken skin on top, with peas.
7)strawberry, raspberry slush with vodka
8)quail with mushroom, apple, onion, peppercorn sauce (leg and filet)
9)white dessert wine from Alsace-Lorraine, 5 cheeses, biscuits, quince, tomato jelly
10)bay leaf biscuit with ice cream, rhubarb with macadamia nuts and chocolate.
This was a wonderful experience for us and we enjoyed it so much! The only thing I wish I had done is take it easy on the refills.
It cost 1190 Kroner per person(about $174 US) plus another 1000 Kroner for wine pairings, so 2090 Kroner (roughly $363 US) Having said that, this was one of the best meals and dining experiences that we have ever had. It's a French Laundry kind of thing to do and you have to think of it almost like you would an entertainment event that you would pay for. We were there about three hours altogether and were very pampered by the staff. An experience we'll never forget!

We spent an unforgettable evening with friends for a birthday celebration. First of all, Palace Grill is not a cheap place to hang out. The set menu is 10 or 11 courses and it changes every day as does the wine menu. Be prepared to pay from 2500nok/person (including wine). Second of all it is not possible to book a table, so one of the guests must hang out in the bar next door to ensure your table (see website for details). All this aside; the food, service and over all experience is worth it on a level it is hard to imagine if you have not been there. We left the place with the feeling that we got away with a bargain. If you want to experience probably the best Oslo has to offer, save up, and visit Palace Grill. You will leave with quite a buzz and a grin on your face.

This is the best restaurant in Oslo. The housing facilities are quite poor, including toilets. You can never prebook a table, you have to show you face a couple of hours before the restaurant opens to get a table. It is also expensive - easily $600 for a couple. But the food is extremely amazing, and also the service.

Well, it does not seem a big thing from outside, in a quite calm and residential neighborhood. But once you pass the door, on your right, a typical bar, very rockn'roll... A couple aquavits before having dinner (no bookings you have to be quite early then to be able to have dinner), and then...
PHENOMENAL. The wine is just perfect (some incredible burgundy recommended), and the dishes = all gastronomic, original, discoveries.
What is Guide Michelin doing?! I'd hesitate between 1 and 2 stars for it.
ps : you need to be hungry to have dinner there. It's a tremendous place. Who did say people from Norway did not know how to enjoy life?
