Description: Lofoten is an elegant, yet cosy and relaxed seafood restaurant on the edge of Aker Brygge with an exquisite maritime menu, good beverages and excellent service. Lofoten pride themselves in serving the best fish and seafood the sea has to offer. The restaurant's philosophy is to serve rustic food that not only looks good, but also tempts the palate and satisfies one's hunger. The menu changes 7-8 times a year and reflects each season's specialities. January-March: Steamed cod with liver and roe, flown in from Lofoten! April-September: Summer menu, 200 seats outside with a great view of the Oslo Fjord. October-December: The Norwegian speciality lutefisk (cod treated with lye).

I have been here a couple of times by now and can say that the fish is good. They are actually very focused on fish as you would expect. Their fish soup is really good and I suggest to try it. Unfortunately if you like meet the choice is extremely limited (just 1 dish last time I went).

It takes a lot to impress me. Having spent some time in Northern Norway where you probably get the best fish in the world, this place has got it together. Naming itself after the fishing metropol of Norway, Lofoten, is putting yourself on the spot. And so I am sure that every northern norwegian who knows what fish really should tast like have had their gourmet experience here when checking this place out. Playing undercover detectives. Waiting like wolves to come out of hiding. Screaming This does not taste like up north. Nobody has, as far as I know. Reason being, it tastes even better! The fish itself is equel to the best, but the saces and the soups you do not find much of the same caliber anywhere. Lofoten, I salute you!

We cancelled the reservation and the hotel (The Thief) rebooked for 8 PM.
The restaurant is located on the seaside of the bay with access by a large sidewalk now on construction but still large enough.
Food was good and fresh but nothing special. The trout (Rakfisk) was indeed good so as the ambiance and the view. Desserts not so good.

If in Oslo, you do want to dine here. Right on the waterfront of the romantic port overlooking the fjord, this very sobre and elegant open kitchen restaurant, combins extremely well presented and tasty typical norvegian cuisine, with an excellent service. Port area is now under renovation, yet, as only the scandinavian people can do, everything looks so clean and orderly kept. For those who like the real taste of fish, the Lutefisk it's a must. Cod with bacon, potatoes and pie-pure, all accompaigned with a good local beer and acquavite ( strong clean local 90% proof spirit ) make you feel a little vicking !
