“Good old fashion french style”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

I ate a very nice tarte steak tartare there (more 150 gr portion than 200), as well as a brilliant cassoulet, with confit beans as melting as they should be. The wine list proposes nice little producers and can explore less popular appellations, like Anjou or Ardeche. No one there is french, but the whole staff is impregnated by french culture, especially the old and very pleasant waiter who certainly visited more restaurants in France then french people. Old fashion brasserie-style for postal card, with a lot of metal, mirrors, and materials which makes the place very noisy when it is full, in spite of the high ceiling. Prices are OK, Oslo speaking.

“Lived up to reputation”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

We booked here for a meal based on the Tripadvisor recommendations and were not disappointed. The restaurant is like stepping into Paris with its classic French décor.

Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with the menu. It is a busy restaurant and tables are quite close together so we did feel we were sharing our meal with the guest at the next table but that turned out to be great as the fellow spoke perfect English and enjoyed chatting to us. We did have meal envy though as he ate his way through the classic bouillabaisse which looked fantastic.

The food is superb and there was" no choice" but to indulge in three courses - all of which were delicious. We would have returned for another meal had we the time.

This is obviously a local favourite and well deserved.

“Never fails!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

If you're a food and wine lover who needs a break from the formalism and vanity of the so-called "fine-dining" venues you'll love this. It has been my favourite in Oslo for a generation (!), and it never disappoints. This is as close as you get to a first-class French brasserie outside France. Some of the waiters have been around for 25 years and they know their game. Lively, informal athmosphere, but damn good! They really know their French! Always full - book days in advance! Enjoy!

“Top-notch food at unbeatable prices”

I recommend everyone to pay this cozy, intimate restaurant a visit!

The restaurant is located close to public transport, downtown.
Try their menu of the day and remember to choose their "Dessert Trolley" as the finale of a dinner to look back on!

“Average and overrated”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The restaurant is cosy and warm, but we were unfortunate to get a table next to the kitchen/service station which was a bit disappointing as we had reserved a table in advance.
Anyway, we were quikly looked after by our waiter that brought us the menu. Tha was it, - no mention of the specials of the day or anything else.
We opted for a sea trout and kring crab starter followed by the boilabaisse. A very reasonably priced chablis premier cru from 2008 was chosen to go with it.
The starter was ok, but the delicate tastes of the main ingredients were a bit overwhelmed by the garnish.
The sauce/stock for the bouilabaisse was served separate from fish and shellfish. We had to clean the shellfish ourselves which is kind of messy. My English dinner companion had no experience with this and required my help in order to do so and be able to eat the crab, king crab and virgin lobster. All in all not ideal.
The stock was actually a bit too rich and partly overwhelmed the taste of the seafood.
The main course was quite large, so if you choose the bouilabaisse two courses should be more than sufficient.
The famous dessert trolley was nice and made my colleague with a sweet tooth quite happy, while I was quite satisfied with some fruit and sorbet.
Three courses for two people with one bottle plus four glasses of wine amounted to roughly 2250 nok. Not a bargain, but not a rip-off either.
Based on reviews I had read prior to visiting I felt a bit disappointed and will probably not revisit.
