“Great food and always a seat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

Always enjoy Restaurant Eik when staying at the hotel (Savoy). Sometimes when you are hungry you just want to be served quickly and quietly. Eik does just this, and they have very good food, so you are much, much happier when you leave than when you arrived :-)

“poor service, average food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Very little value for money and very poor service.

We had one vegetarian at our table who got exactly what the meat eaters had, just without the meat (at the same price, of course), although they could have prepared for his "extraordinary" needs as we booked 2 days in advance. In general the food was abundantly spiced with salt.

The way the wine was presented was a lesson on what to avoid (put the bottle on the table to wiggle the cork out. Do not show the cork to the guests; forget to re-fill white wine, drip on table cloth and guests without apologizing etc). They store the red wine behind glass, non-climatised, and well lit - we were wondering how the bottles boiling directly under the lamps will taste.

They put as many tables in the room as you could possibly fit, which adds a beerhall like atmosphere in terms of sound and closeness to your neighbours.

On the positive side they have very comfortable chairs.

“Superb modern Nordic cooking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

With a chic, modern setting and welcoming staff, this is a wonderful place for a culinary adventure. I went there with friends and colleagues after a conference, and it was a wonderful end to the event. A large group of us were seated at a big round table and plied with a constant stream of delicious food. Everything, from the bread with its rock salt and rosemary crust to the chocolates served with coffee at the end, was beautifully cooked from excellent ingredients, and served with a well-chosen wine. Three course were outstanding: a beautiful little petit four of beetroot topped with goat's cheese cream, we ate exquisite sea crab with avocado and lemon sauce, and superb venison cooked two ways - but all the food was superb. It was wonderful to eat local ingredients interpreted with such respect and skill. If you're in Oslo, make a point of going there.

“good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Restaurant in Oslo city center. Good food, gourmet style, slightly small servings. Wine packages overprized, better buy by the glass/bottles. Set menu gives few options, but good quality, the lamb dish was top notch. Good winelist, some bargains even. Big minus for not having a place to leave your coat safely, wardrobe at your own risk!
