This was an hour of my life I'll never get back - and that includes 30 minutes of waiting to get in, which turned out to be the best part. Don't waste your time!

Hello and thank you for your review of Astrup Fearnley Museet. We are sorry to read the exhibitions did not appeal to you. If you ever come back, we encourage you to speak with our museum hosts and hopefully you'll have a good experience!

Excellent architecture, perfect location, excellent exhibitions (both their permanent collection and the temporary Takashi Murakami exhibition were great).
It will be crowded in the afternoon.

Greetings, and thank you so much for visiting Astrup Fearnley Museet and for your wonderful review! We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.
Wishing you a great summer - and welcome back soon!

I didn't expect to like the exhibit but want to visit the museum and the permanent collection. Turns out I like the temporary exhibit better than the permanent one: never put brakes on art appreciation!

Hello,
And thank you so much for your kind review! "never put brakes on art appreciation" - what a great reminder to everyone.
Wishing you a wonderful summer - and welcome back soon!

On the harbour facing the sea, the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art is in two connected buildings designed by Renzo Piano and is an anchor to the successful redevelopment of the waterfront district of Aker Brygge, which is a popular area of cafes and bars with new office and residential developments, perhaps showing what could be possible in due course at the Olympic Park in Stratford.
The Museum, opened in 2012, houses the private collection of the Thomas Fearnley, Heddy and Nils Astrup Foundation. The first room of the permanent collection currently is showing work by Gilbert & George and Damien Hirst and Young British Artists are well represented, along with Norwegian, European and American artists including Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons and Ansel Kiefer. The focus has been on individual artists rather than movements or a comprehensive overview of modern and contemporary art.
Outside are a series of modern sculptures and one of the building houses temporary exhibitions, the current one the first major solo exhibition in Scandinavia of the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.
The museum has a popular café with great chunky sandwiches (which we enjoyed!)

Greetings, and many thanks for visiting Astrup Fearnley Museet and your kind review! We hope to welcome you back soon.
Wishing you a wonderful summer!

We found the museum in the new section of Oslo Harbour, called Tjuvholmen. This small area, partly man made on stilts by the sea, oozes of modern architecture and expensive restaurants, art galleries, law offices, etc. And the Astrup Fearnley fit in well, design by the famous architect Piano, and containing fascinating modern art.

Greetings, and many thanks for your kind review! Hope to welcome you back soon.
Wishing you a wonderful summer!
