Had a great stay at CityBox Oslo. Self check in was fast and smooth - no issues. The room was great - just enough space for the two of us. Comfortable bed. Good blinds to block out the light. And great value!
Location wise it is excellent. Literally around the corner from the train station and the opera house. Walking distance to everything. And so close to trams and trains for all those things a little further away!

Such a steal for a city so expensive.

Plus: New, modern/trendy, good location, clean & affordable (for Norway).
Minus: Small rooms, no storage, no closet, no safe.

I stayed on two separate occasions in early May 2014 (in between stayed at Citybox Bergen). The first time was for one night in a single room-small w/bath facing the street. Very narrow bed, but no problem sleeping. There was street noise at night, which disappeared late night. Following week stayed for two nights also in a single room w/bath. This room faced an inner courtyard & it was very quiet. This single room & bed was also slightly bigger than the first stay. The rooms are small & having a couple of large luggage would definitely present problems. The small bathroom has floors that are heated. In room wifi & also LAN connection.

The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the main train station, opera house (that’s the opera house on their home page) & the cruise ship docks. Aker Brygge is within a 15-20 minute walk. Easy automated check-in process w/staff on-site if help is needed. There are nearby restaurants, coffee shops, small grocery stores & 7-Elevens (24hrs).

The first floor common area is large with plenty of comfortable sofas. One corner has a PC & printer for public use. Towards the back there is a small kitchen area with sink, kettle, microwave, vending machines (including coffee) & frig.

Traveling in Norway is expensive. I consider Citybox Oslo (Bergen too) good economic options & will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing inner courtyard are very quiet.

Hi avio!

Thanks for a great and thorough review of our hotel!

So great to hear that a returning guest had another good stay with us! So glad to hear that you felt the small extra fee to upgrade from a "small" to a normal double room was worth it, we totally agree with you on that - and that is something we have tried our best to inform our guests on! A room that is categorized with the name "small" is indeed just that! But it is really cheap though! :)

Thanks again for all your nice words, and a special thanks for also recommending our sister hotel in Bergen! :)

Hope to see you again!

Best wishes,
Citybox Oslo

My mom and I stayed here in a small double room for 3 nights while visiting in Oslo. As others have said, the main positive aspects of the hotel are the very reasonable prices, the location and the ease of check in on the machines. We secured our room for a rate of about 96 USD per night, which is a steal in a city where everything else is so expensive. The first 3 nights here our room was facing the main street of Prinsensgate and sometimes late at night it was indeed noisy with people walking around on the streets (our first night here happened to be on the 200th constitution day of Oslo so very busy that night) and the "working ladies" on the corner were out there every night, but since they did not bother us, I certainly didn't care.

We found our room to be comfortable and the heated floor in the bathroom was an added bonus. The shower was fabulous, great water pressure and nice and hot. The wifi worked perfectly in our room and we had no issues with that whatsoever. The kitchen area in the lobby was very helpful and we utilized it to get hot water from the coffee machine to make our own coffee, tea, etc and also put some snacks in the refrigerator. There were a few times when we needed help from the staff for more towels or to ask questions regarding transportation in the city and they were always most happy to help and very quick.

After staying 3 nights in Oslo we went to Barcelona, then we returned to Oslo for 1 more night before going back to the US and we stayed at Citybox again that night. This time were in a regular double room (rather than a small) and the room was in the back of the hotel which opened up to a courtyard area instead of on the street. We found the room size to be much better and worth the few extra dollars and we also liked the location of this room much better too.

Overall, this hotel excels in many areas: providing all the basic needs for a budget price and a great location close to everything in the city. For that reason, I would recommend it to others and would stay here again myself if I ever visit Oslo in the future.

Hi lmariec09!

Thank you so much for a great and thorough review of our hotel!

So glad to hear that you and your mum enjoyed your stay with us, and that you rate us as a steal might suggest that we maybe should up our prices? Don't worry, we won't! :)

We can understand that some might feel it's noisy with a room facing the streets, but it's a much more exciting view than our backyard at least? If you book a hotel located right in the city center, there will always be some noise coming from a big city, but if anyone is sensitive to noise, we always recommend a room facing our backyard, as you got when you returned! :)

Also nice to hear that you liked both our bathroom and our small kitchen area, and that we could provide the help you needed!

We totally agree that the small amount you pay to upgrade from a "Double room Small" to a "Double Room" is worth it. The small rooms are named small because they indeed are small, but also really cheap!! :)

Thanks again for a great review, and for recommending us!
Hope to see you again sometime!

Best wishes,
Citybox Oslo

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling across Norway. As many have said, definately unique the self service checkin. Rooms were small but more than enough for what we needed. The small kitchen area in the lobby we found useful especially for breakfasts. Ideal location only 2 mins from the main street and central station.

Only downside was that the room was pretty hot with a few warm days in Oslo and the aircon didn't seem to do much to cool it down. Quite noisy with the window open as our overlooked the main street.

Would recommend however for a budget stay in Oslo (which is expensive!)

Hi Craig A!

Thank you so much for reviewing us on Tripadvisor!

Too bad that you felt your room were too hot! We have been lucky to experience some sun in Oslo the last couple of days, but our centrally controlled heating/cooling system should adjust accordingly? However, we hope that you noticed the small switch on the wall in your room where you can adjust the temperatue +/- 3 degrees? But glad that you seem to be generally happy with your stay with us, and thrilled to see that you still are recommending us!

Hope to welcome you back!

Best wishes,

Unique for sure, clean, convenient to train station and walkable major attractions of Oslo. It was small, but certainly sufficient for the intended purpose (an economical, clean, and convenient overnight stay in Oslo). E-check in but staff available for problems. Hot water, shower, wifi availability, clean sheets and towels, clean room, and budget...perfect.

The Citybox Oslo is a well located, budget, city hotel. The most of the major attractions of Oslo are at walking distance. Main transportation points such as subway/train station or airport busses are at five minute walk. Rooms are (even if it is double) a bit small but quite clean. In order to maintain low price do not expect daily room cleaning or a reception desk. It is very suitable especially if you are going to Oslo for a short vacation or a lonely traveler. I would definitely prefer to stay in this hotel again.

Hi Emre F!

Thank you so much for your great review of our hotel!

If you book one of our rooms categorized as small, the rooms are just that - small, but that is also one of the reasons that we can offer them at such a fair rate! And we try being as honest as possible, by actually naming them small! :)

We also try our best to offer a simple and modern accommodation at a fair price, and we are so glad to see that you think we offer just that!

Hope to see you again!

As others said this is a unique hotel with e check in. The only down side is the rooms are on the small side. Otherwise, it's great! Clean and in a great location. I couldn't believe there were 2 full length mirrors in our room! YAY!!!!!!!! No outlet in the bathroom though. But a great shower with a real shower door! (Yay again!) Heated floors in the bathroom. Air and heat works well!

For the price (Norway is the 2nd most expensive country in the world) it is well worth it. Relatively speaking it is reasonably priced.

The location is great. 5 minutes to the opera house, 15 minutes to the harbor, less than 10 to the train station. Metro and buses and trams are also convenient.

Just an aside. Get the Oslo Pass from tourist information. It is worth every penny and more. It gets you in all of the museums for free and all public transportation including ferries, no exceptions. It paid for itself many times over!

Room Tip: Get the Oslo Pass for site seeing.

Hi donnaonlbi!

Thank you so much for an energetic and fun review of our hotel!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the two full lengt mirrors in your room! Not all of our bathrooms have that setup, but not sure everyone would enjoy them as much as you did, so it worked out perfectly! :) All our bathrooms have 1 power outlet (just to the right of where the light is), but too bad you couldn't locate it!

Thank you so much for saying that we are value for money! Norway and Oslo are indeed expensive places to visit, and we are glad that we can offer a fair rate to our guests!

If you are looking for the full Oslo experience, we concur in your recommendation of the Oslo Pass!

Hope to see you again!

Best wishes,
