Radisson Blu Hotel Nydalen, Oslo

We went to this hotel on 2 occasions in one week during Christmas Holidays (3 and 2 nights). The first time we got a very tiny room without a view (we could barely see the sky, only the hotel room opposite of ours). The second time was much better, a great view and the room was twice as big. On both occasions the rooms were either not properly cleaned (smudges on the floor from the wet snow for example were not removed during our stay), or consumables like shampoo were not replaced when finished.
I'm not sure if it is the hotel policy or not, but it seemed that the reception was understaffed the whole week. The first time the poor guy was working 3 day in a row, we saw him at breakfast, when we left for the city centre and when we came back to sleep and al the time he was working alone, still he was very friendly. When we left, a lady had taken over the shift and also she was still there when we returned. She was not friendly at all, but I guess because she probably did not like the 72 hours shift....
The breakfast was good. Loved the free WiFi. The subway and bus-stop are just around the corner. No coffee and tea facilities in the standard room though... I guess the hotel was just fine, but I expected it be more, because it was rated as a 4-star hotel. Would not have any complaints if it was rated as a 3-star hotel. I've rated the value as high because we payed only 1/3 of the current roomrates (we booked 3 months in advance). Maybe this hotel is better when it is not the holiday season?

We stayed two nights - from 30th dec to 1st jan. We weren't concerned about being a bit out of the city at first but the metros don't run all night so obviously you need to be aware of the metro timetable when going out in the city centre for a few drinks. It depends on your budget but we found taxis to be prohibitively expensive. Perhaps this wouldn't be an issue for those on a bigger budget. Despite signs up in the hotel that the bar and restaurant were open for meals, when we asked for drinks and a menu at the bar we were told it was shut and to go to the city centre of we wanted anything (it was 9.30pm and the next metro train was at 10pm and the last one home was to leave Oslo S at 11.30pm - so that wasn't possible. We asked about restaurants locally or even a petrol station but the person at reception said everything was closed. Later we overheard another receptionist ordering a pizza for another resident, so we asked her to order one for us also - she didn't warn us how big they were! They're huge (one would feed two people easily) and two pizzas set us back 509kr! When the takeaway pizzas arrived there was a menu in the box and the company they use has a very extensive and varied menu (asian, italian etc.) so if you're in that situation, ask the receptionist to see the menu. She was under pressure when we asked her to order one for us so she rushed us to place the order without us knowing what was on offer.
The room wasn't very clean - long black hair in the sheets and hair in the shower and on the toilet.
Minibar is reasonably priced by Oslo standards, and the neighbourhood that the hotel is in is very nice- feels safe. Excellent breakfast.
Staff generally were lovely, but wouldn't stay this far from the city centre again.

Stayed for one night in this hotel and had a really nice time. Certainly not a building site now - had a really nice lobby with log fires. Staff were really helpful, and bought us a kettle as we wanted to make tea. Right next to metro station, about 10 mins from city centre. I paid £80, which I think is very good value for Oslo. Room was comfortable and clean (decoration was a little unusual), and bathroom was bright and modern. Gave me an extra bed for my child at no extra charge. Would highly recommend.

The hotel itself was OK (although a lot of the public areas were a building site while I was there). However, I've never had such a poor bar meal anywhere -- and I'm British, so I know a bit about that! The salad was limp and so salty it was inedible; the chips were so overcooked that they were just hard shells.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in Oslo. The hotel was under construction as they were/are adding a conference center so there was some extra noise but nothing done too late/early.

Positives: The hotel room was very comfortable, TV, Wifi Internet were all top notch. The hotel is right across the street from the Nydalen subway stop which is very convenient. The breakfast was very good, and they seemed to keep bringing the food as long as people were eating which wasn't the case anywhere else we've been in Europe. One day we went minutes before the breakfast was set to be over due our 6 month old being cranky...and they had plenty of everything. There was plenty of garage parking, however...

Negatives: The parking costs were VERY high...Norway is an expensive country but if you have your own car plan on spending quite a bit on parking. Overall if I'm in Oslo again I'd stay here.

The room was clean, spacious, confortable, quiet, with a big window and renovated furniture. The location is very good, a few meters from the metro station (RING line) and in a quite and safe area of the town, close to the university. There's almost no restauranr and or pub newarby but you can easily reach the city center (or the train and bus station) by metro, it takes about 10 minutes. There is a free wi-fi internet connection in every room. Both continental and norvegian and english breakfast avaialable with a good choice and quality. A small remark: there is NO chocolate at breakfast (neither Nutella nor chocolate biscuits or croissant, nothing!)
By booking and pre-paying the room with much advance we got an excellent price and an excellent value for money.
