Owner description: Norsk Folkemuseum shows how people lived in Norway from 1500 to the present through its collections from around the country. Among the highlights are the Stave Church from Gol, dating from 1200 and an apartment building with homes from the 20th Century. 160 historic buildings in the big Open-Air Museum represent different regions in Norway, different time periods, as well as differences between town and country, and social classes. Indoor exhibits present Norwegian heritage. The museum has a comprehensive activity program and is open all year.

Learned a ton about my Norwegian ancestors! This place is a must see while in Oslo. It is accessible by boat and is located in a really wonderful neighborhood on an island near Oslo. Visit the Viking Ships Museum while there also. It is a couple of blocks from the cultural museum. While at the museum, don't miss the original and rare Stave church on the grounds.

You should take your time exploring this great museum. Old houses from various times spread around this wonderful museum and live events spice things up. You can smell the history and touch it. Old town is fun to visit with it´s gas stations and shops from early 20Th. century. Great place for families on a sunny day.

I thought this open air museum was fascinating. It was very interesting to see how Norwegians of the distant and recent past lived. I was lucky enough to share the visit with Norwegian friends so that I could compare the past with the present :-)

We found it by chance walking back from the Viking Museum.

It has been amazing! It is a huge park with different zones. Each zone shows a farm style of a particular part of Norway. You can feel to travel thought all the Norway just walking in the park.
In several farms you can find people doing the traditional old works and they are enjoy to explain the Norwegian story.

Definitely highly suggested!
