The hotel lives upto the reviews in tripadvisor and other sites. We were on a cruise ship the week before and after we disembarked went early in the morning to the hotel. Our check in was much later and as they had been full the night before they did not commit to an early check in. However, the reception offered to keep our bags till a room was available. We paid for our breakfast in the lovely dining room. It was a great homely breakfast with fresh breads, home made jams and cold cuts. To our surprise after we had finished breakfast our room was ready and the keys were handed over. Meanwhile we had access to wifi all over the hotel. The property is at an unenviable location with stunning views. It also has lovely photographs of its history, pieces of art and sculptures al over the property. Although it has a very small team of staff they are all warm, friendly and very helpful. Since it was a small place we were comfortable with our kids being out of the room by themselves. All in all if one has to experience the views of Oslo and get a local feel at great value, Voksaansen is the place to stay when in Oslo. Its a short train ride away from the city. Although train repair work is going on its well connected by buses and a short ride can get you away from the hustle of the city but still close enough.

I got a very good price when I booked this hotel a day before I traveled to Oslo. The hotel was perfect. Large, spotless, comfortable room, great breakfast, tastefully decorated common areas, free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is located on the mountain overlooking Oslo, near winter ski resorts. I knew that it was not in the city when I was booking it, I also knew that I could easily reach it by subway. Unfortunately, the hotel website did not mention that due to track repair the subway was not running the whole summer. If I knew that, I probably would not have booked it. There is a bus running instead of the subway. It is very reliable and quite comfortable, but it definitely takes longer than the train would.

In the end I do not regret staying in this hotel. I just wish I was told about the subway not running when I booked, instead of finding about it when I arrived in Oslo late in the evening.

Spent three nights in this stylish Norwegian hotel. Room though small was furnished with clean scandanavian design. Breakfast buffet had lots of variety and provided a great start to the day's sighseeing. Staff were attentive and friendly. The one significant drawback is the fact that the metro is under refurbishment until December 2010 and so the journey to the hotel if not using car involves a tram/metro to link with a bus(30 minutes and a short walk). Despite this we felt this was well worth the effort for the spectacular views and a perspective on Oslo from outside the city centre. Hotel also boasts a lovely art collection and extensive library.

The 4 star hotel is set on a hill with beautiful views of the fjord, the mountains and the city lights. The view is what makes this hotel, plus my room was comfortable and the breakfast buffet is ample.

The only downside is that the hotel is 10 minute walk to the metro station then 30 minutes by metro line 1 to the centre of the city. I didn't find that a problem though because trains run regularly and it is the most scenic metro ride you will ever take, as it goes through the mountains. It may be a problem if you have lots of luggage.

The hotel is located in a quiet and green area outside the city center of Oslo just behind the famous Holmenkollen ski jump. From the restaurant and some of the rooms you have a fantastic view on the Oslo Fjord and Oslo. If the view is important to you, make sure you mention it when reserving the room.

The hotel seems to have been built in the seventies and most of the room equipment looked a bit dated. The rooms were rather small and nothing fancy but they were very clean. The equipment of the rooms seems to vary -- we had one room with bath tub and one that had only a shower so again, make sure you mention your preferences when reserving a room.

Some of the rooms are located below the restaurant so they can be quite noisy if the hotel hosts a party.

The hotel has several areas where you can sit and relax, enjoy the view or watch TV, sip a coffee (however the coffee maker is available at certain hours only) and plan your next trips. It even had a library, sauna and a heated outdoor pool. A PC with Internet access and free WLAN is available.

The staff was very friendly. The only minor complaint I have is that they do not seem to look after the sauna every day. It was clean but the after using it a few times there were no towels anymore and we had to go and ask for more.

The breakfast is plenty and of very good quality. We also tried the hotel restaurant. It was very good but quite expensive. Also, the preparation of the food took rather long, probably because there was a wedding party at the same time so most of the staff was busy there.

There is free parking space available right next to the hotel. Taking the car to downtown takes about 20 minutes. Since parking in Oslo is very expensive (295 Kroner for a day) and you also have to pay a city toll when entering the city by car you might want to try the train. The nearest station is a 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed here early Feb when there was heaps of snow on the ground. The hotel is a short (10 minute) walk up a slight incline from Voksenkollen T-Bane (underground) station. Even though it dumped down snow, the road was cleared by ploughs every night and there was no problem walking up and down to the hotel - i was worried about traffic - there was barely any and the road was fully lit from the station to the hotel.

Our room was clean and pleasant. Heated floor tiles in the bathroom to help dry ski gear :) Mini bar to keep nibbles cool. Beautiful view of the city at night! Sadly, no coffee/tea making in the rooms, but was available in the hotel conference area.

Breakfast was good and the hotel happily filled our thermos flasks in the morning for a days adventure!

We chose this hotel as a base to go cross country skiing into the Nordmarka - a fantastic choice as an exploratory trip since you can hire your gear 10 minutes from the hotel and its right in the heart of the ski action - much much better than getting there from the city below every day.

The hotel also has free use of sleds for the nearby sled run from Frognersetern to Midstuen!

We had no problems leaving our luggage in the luggage room for the late flight and the staff were on the whole very friendly.

On the downside, there are no shops etc. nearby (apart from an ICA at a t-bane about 5 or 6 stops away) so we bought all our goodies in Oslo before coming out to the hotel.

We never at a meal apart from Breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that.

One of the better holidays i've had in a while - partly due to the location of this hotel! Not for everyone, but fantastic for cross country!! (although next time i'll be staying in an overnight hut deep in the forest :) )
