Hanami is one of the new up&coming restaurants in trendy urban area Tjuvholmen. They serve modern Japanese / Asian fusion cousines- extraordinary prepared and presented. The food is served like tapas and to share.
In short time it has become a popular and trendy place.
This was my first visit and Hanami did not live up to my high expectations.
Yes, the cources were extraordinary prepared and presented, but the ingredients and specially the quality of the fish sashimi should be better, take into consideration the extremly high prices you have to pay for the meal. Specially the tuna quality was low and way beyond average. Many of the fish sashimi dishes had lots of sauces to hide the lower fish quality.
My favourites were the smoked halibut sashimi and the miso marinated black cod.
The interiour inside is fancy and modern. Instead of sitting outside (like we did), I'd rather sit inside by the sushi bar, with a great view to the chef and restaurant interiour. Sitting outside you have mainly the view to a construction area and a very small part of the Oslo fjord. Dont sit at the robata grill either. Here it is hot and many people crossing & going to the restroom.
Because of the high prices and the lower fish quality, I would rate this restaurant as average (3*), but I give it one more * because of the untraditional way they present the food and because of the modern interiour.
If you are looking for high quality fish and a great sushi experience at the same price level as Hanami - go to Alex Sushi instead. At Alex you will get better service and more wine competent staff also.
