“Fabulous service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

This is apparently the only five star hotel in Oslo. The building itself is quite old and they tried to keep decoration in an old fashion way resembling half a century ago which is nice. The highlight of my stay was the service . Every staff in this hotel is well oriented toward guest hospitality. Really wonderful ! The location is very good, being close to shops, good restaurants, some attractions and a metro station. The breakfast was complete and delicious, here again the staff were quite attentive and really care taking. The room was of average size with good amenities and a rather medium to small sized bathroom. Free WIFI is a big plus here. Overall was a nice experience and will recommend.

The hotel location is perfect: very central, on Stortingsgata, opposite the National Theatre and a stone's throw from the Royal Palace. The staff were very professional and the receptionist who checked me in was very efficient. My room had a very nice view over the theatre and the square, and Molton Brown toiletries, which are just fine. The fact that wi-fi was free and high speed was also great. The room itself, however, was very dated and desperately needed a facelift - more for a 90-year old grandmother, than a single male in his thirties. It also needed better housekeeping: I had the displeasure of finding a lot of pubic hair stuck to the toilet seat, and by my desk there was a big fluff ball. The buffet breakfast was fine, with good variety. The fact it's a 5 star hotel, and there was no turn down service, was quite odd.

I celebrated my birhtday at Hotel Continental in September 2011 and enjoyed every moment of it. I was upgraded to a wonderful suite with large balcony, with views of Karl Johan Street and The National Theatre. Great location, just 1 min from airport train and harbour area. Best choice in central Oslo, if you can afford it. Search around and you should be able to get a double room for less than 250 USD any time of year. Cheaper during weekends.

We stayed here with our family in June of 2011. This is a great, central location if you are staying in Oslo. It is just a few blocks from the waterfront area where you can catch the ferry to the Brygge area or eat at any number of neat locations. And the subway line is just across the street.

The lobby is classic; relaxing and beautiful. We found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. The rooms were spacious, and there were a few options available that made the stay especially convenient for our family. Everything was clean too.

The breakfast was typical for higher-end hotels in Norway and Sweden - excellent!

Room Tip: Ask for what you need. They have it all at this place.

We spent two nights at this hotel in October 2011.

The hotel is perfectly located opposite the National Theater and Airport Express Train station. The fascinating Aker Brygge area and Oslo's main shopping streets are just a short walk away. If you decide to visit the Viking Ship Museum and other interesting museums in the Bygdöy area, the bus stop is just outside the hotel's main entrance.

We had a recently renovated room facing the inner courtyard. The room was a nice, well thought-out combination of old charm and modern facilities. Please note that it makes a big difference whether you are having a renovated room or the "original" room at this hotel, as some reviewers on this site have already made perfectly clear. It is also worth noting that the hotel seems to be in the middle of a renovation project, as our inner courtyard view also included the opportunity to stare at the scaffold right outside the window. However, this did not disturb us at all, as there was nobody working there at the time of our stay.

The breakfast at the hotel was top-notch and very substantial, and it was served in a very nice environment on the 2nd floor. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the things to see and do in Oslo. The cafe/bar in the hotel's lobby area is very popular among locals, so expect to find it challenging to find a table/seat there during the busiest hours.

This is not a cheap hotel (well, Oslo is a very expensive city anyway), but it does provide a great base for exploring the city and a nice extra dose of old charm accompanied by friendly and attentive Norwegian customer service which, by the way, was very evident almost everywhere in the city.

Room Tip: Make sure that you get a renovated room. Also, if you are not a tight sleeper, avoid the rooms on th...
