“My new home in Oslo”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

King Harold V is your nearest neighbour. Downtown Oslo is just a short walk through the Palace Park.
They have a few parkingspots in the backyard at a surcharge. They are VERY narrow, but still better then parking in the street.

My room was enormous: full kitchen with utensils, bathroom, bedroom and a very nice livingroom with a couch, chair, table, flatscreen TV and a cafetable set.
No minibar, but a fridge to hold your own shopping.
Room was a bit too warm to sleep in and a bit to chilly to relax in during the day. But I guess that's your average hotel room dilemma...

Breakfast resturant was fine. Food was good, and selection was good.

I stayed for five nights, and my room was tidied except from Sunday, which I'm fine with.
I have just booked it again for my next stay in Oslo.

Room Tip: Ask for an appartment. May cost a bit more, though.

As I frequently travel to Oslo on business and to see friends, I am very happy to have found hotel Slottsparken. I have stayed here several times over the last 18 months and will soon go back for a short stay. I would never have returned if I was not happy with the rooms, service etc. The upgraded rooms are superb, and I love the kitchenette facility.
The last time I was there I stayed for 3 nights and it was really convenient with a kitchenette.
The reseption area isn't very nice, hopefully they will remodel this too in the end.
Looking at the travellers pics I find that noone has submitted pictures of the new remodelled rooms, which is a pity. The hotel's own photoes really do the remodelled rooms justice.

I recently stayed at the Thon and enjoyed the luxury of the business suite. The hotel does not look like much from the outside and not a well located reception desk or area, however our very plush business suite with kitchenette and separate lounge area washed all those concerns away. View was so so, but room was very nice, and clean. Bedroom area unusual layout but stay here was extremely comfortable, breakfast adequate, good value for money.

As with other reviewers here, I confirm the hotel upgrade is in slow-progressive progress. If you stay at the hotel, specifically request one of the remodeled rooms - they are quite nice and are offered at the same price as the older, dated rooms.

I was traveling with several colleagues - we all paid same nightly rate for our rooms, but some rooms are newly remodeled and very nice (parquet floors, new bath, kitchenette, etc). The older rooms have carpet you wouldn't trust to walk on bare-foot and a kitchenette straight from 1945.

Pros:
- The bed was clean and comfortable
- Breakfast was very good
- Hotel staff friendly and accomodating
- IF you get a remodeled room you'll find it an excellent value
- Nice kitchenette (in the new rooms)
- Local pub attached next to hotel

Cons:
- IF you are unlucky to get the older style room you might be disappointed
- Hotel remodel under progress
- Fitness center is closed for renovations
- Few other in-room amenities (no mini-bar or other hotel services)
- Hotel hallways are dirty from the remodel work

Conclusion:
I travel to Oslo frequently and will consider this hotel again, but perhaps in a few months when the remodel is complete and fitness center open again.

Room Tip: Request remodeled room!

Annoying thing about the hotel - is a long-term renovation causing all the uncomfortable things, it's going pretty long time since I'd started using the hotel (2 years ago).
So, the truth about the hotel - your satisfaction depends from which room you'll get - after reparation or not. I used to have both options.
Rooms after reparation of course have everything new and clean.
Old rooms are just old, and carpet and other stuff are old (that is unpleasant sometimes).

If to look at positive sides in general:
- location of hotel is just perfect since it's very close to subway and to city center, to all the shops and entertainment.
- the another good thing about the hotel - is kitchen so if you stay for a long period - good to have possibility to cook/eat in the room.
- Hotel's personnel is very kind and helpful.

Negative thing is about noise, in case you got a room on the 0 or 1 or 2nd floors. There is a machine coming every night (or morning) at 6am, so it's very noisy and can disturb your sleeping. Also there is a negative aspect about about old rooms - you need to wait 5 or even more minutes to get warm water in the bathroom (didn't meet this problem in the renovated rooms).

Breakfast is various and good.

Room Tip: - Rooms on the highest floors - there will be no noise from the street - Agree with the hotel befor...

Thon Hotel Slottsparken was a nice experience. Big rooms, cleand and cheap. Ok location near the castle. Breakfast is just ok, typical Thon breakfast. But if you are spending more than two nights in Oslo, I recommend this hotel beacuse of the roomsize.
