Cochs Pensjonat
Ranked #1 of 19 Oslo B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 23, 2012

Cochs Pension is a good value for money option for lovely, but expensive, Oslo. The Pension is well located, offers basic facilities and the staff is very nice and welcoming.

My single room was of a decent size, very clean and actually very quite. Ask for a room that faces the back yard, since the street in front of the hotel is loaded with bars. The street is also under public works, but it did not interfere with my stay.

My room was quite basic: no safe or telephone and quite a small TV. I had a mini fridge and a decent bathroom. The Pension has a lot of charm and to sum up, it does the work. Will consider coming back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back yard

Very good location and reasonable price. Fantastic clean, nice kitchenette and this is very practical in such expensive for out eating city as Oslo. No air conditioning and that is very good for me also as I am very sensitive to.
Things you should pay attention to:
1. Ask room to the backyard if you don't want listen downside street noise. Also I had found that some rooms to the street side has very poor sound isolation. I was woken by alarm clocks in neighboring rooms from both sides. I was even able to hear every step of my neighbor...
2. WiFi sometimes doesn't works. If say truth I use to stay here 3 times and 2 times was problems with WiFi. Once there was no WiFi at all. Also it could be nice to find issuing time printed on WiFi access ticket. It has time limit and you could not know if it expired already as it has no time stamp (also personell doesn't know what is time limit :) 24 or 48 hours)

Room Tip: Rooms to the backyard are quieter and has better sound isolation from neighbor

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are pleased that you had a nice stay.
It is is correct that we had many problems with the wifi last year. We have now improved the system at it should be working now. It is a good point that there is no time indication on the ticket, and this is something we will try to fix. Thank you for the tip!We are sorry that the staff you met was not well informed.
We look forward to seeing you at Cochs Pensjonat again. Best regards.

Wonderful establishment: clean and cheerful with an attentive, kind and multilingual staff. Rooms are no-frills (bed, chair, kitchenette), but delightfully Norwegian. Only downside is the street noise which is obviously beyond the hotel's control: when the bars close, things can get a bit rowdy (who would've thought the Litteraturhuset crowd would've been the worst offenders!). As a university student, it didn't bother me, but my companion, who is used to more tranquil sleeping environments, was jolted from her sleep at least once each night. The discounted breakfast is not really worth it; there are a variety of cheap and delicious options within walking distance.

Travelers info by train station told me about this place and got the last room with shared bath. Shared bath is no problem because of set up. Super clean, friendly and location behind Palace Garden is perfect as tram, train and bus station is less than a beautiful10 minutes walk away. Price is very reasonable, better than hostel that was in a noisy area. I only know about single rooms, stayed street side and garden side but larger are available. Fast food and grocery is quite close by.

Room Tip: Garden side are very quiet, weekdays traffic on street side.

It's not easy to find somewhere affordable to stay in Norway, let alone Oslo. This is very practical and would be suitable for longer stays. The outside of the building doesn't look much, with a bar on the ground floor and major road works outside. However, it is very near the palace gardens and the university. It's a odd mix of old and new on the inside. The staircase is traditional, but the corridors upstairs were very modern - quite a contrast. We discovered that breakfast was not included in the price, but you could get a discounted breakfast buffet at a cafe nearby. It didn't look particularly tempting or good value, so we went to the little supermarket opposite (Kiwi) and ate in the room. The room had electric rings for cooking and you could borrow pots and pans for free from reception. There is free wifi, but you have to get an access card from reception - and you need as many cards as you have devices you want to use online.

Room Tip: Upper floor to the rear, so you don't get street noise.

I stayed here for my first two weeks in Oslo, while looking for an apartment to rent. It’s perfectly located, fairly close to Palace and the heart of city. Just across the street lies the Litteraturhuset, the house of literature where is an amazing place to spend some quality time either alone; reading surfing or writing or alternatively with friend(s), enjoying a drink or even a meal at their restaurant.
The Hotel provides you the basic cooking appliances so that you don’t need to eat out every time which can be pretty costly.
The only problem during my stay was that the internet service did not work at all and when I asked the receptions, it turned out it had been like that for months. If you are planning to stay there, make sure the internet works properly…

This guest house is clean, comfortable and perfect if you're after basic budget accommodation. It is centrally located - right next to the Royal Palace and down the road from one of the main shopping areas. You can walk into the city centre in about 10 minutes. Nearby restaurants Horgans, Lorry and Katedralen (a bar in an old church off the main road at the end of Parkveien) are well worth a visit! They don't offer breakfast but you can get a discount on the breakfast buffet at neraby Kafe caffe.

Overall would definitely stay here again if I came back to Oslo!

Room Tip: My room was on the main road and noisy (although you have to expect this in a city!), so request a r...
