Nice assortment of historical paintings, tapestries & furnishings. Lovely views over the harbor. Not a huge place, so you can visit in a couple of hours - depending on how much you linger. Helpful staff will answer questions.

Great audio tour of the Akershus Castle, especially if you've had a chance to explore the outside first. The tour goes all the way into the dungeons to the top of the towers. There are medieval weapons, king's tombs, cool banquet halls, and great ghost stories. The views of the harbor and the islands are just awesome.

Really awesome place to visit in Oslo.

Great views of Oslo harbour from the fortress and a great little museum and info centre, all free to enter.

I would suggest going here in the morning to as the light and scenery is beautiful.

There are a few side entrances into the fortress but it is worth finding the main entrance (gate with guards, who are very friendly) too make sure you do not miss any part of the fortress.

I am really not a history lover but I found this place really interesting. A lot of people would skip past the visitor centre but don't!! It is worth popping in, there is a room with loads of facts about the history of the fortress and Oslo as a city, including lots about their two big fires and war with Sweden too.
The walk to the castle is lovely, especially if you go when it is snowing- the views are nice and castle itself is impressive. You can walk through, and if you don't want the audio tour, there is a brief booklet outlining the main points about each room - as a history-snubber I found this much more bearable!!

I would definitely recommend paying the £7 or whatever it is to go into the castle, it is worth it.

I think anyone would like a visit here.

Located right next to the main pier in Oslo, the imposing famous castle Akershus, is an ideal spot to spend around an hour. Disney World has even made a replica of this castle as a restaurant in EPCOT.

Visitors get a great view of the harbor from here, as well as getting to see soldiers walk around in their classic uniforms. It is free to walk around the grounds here. If you have the Oslo Pass, it is also free to enter the castle itself as well as the other museums on the grounds such as the World War II Resistance museum, which we'd highly recommend as well.
