The fortress itself has a military presence even today, but its history is what makes it interesting. The fort overlooks the harbour but the day that we visited there was an enormous cruise ship in port and it towered over the fort and all one could see from the battlements was this huge ship. The fort itself is interesting to walk around to take in the history of the Nazi occupation of Norway in the more recent history, as well as the more ancient history. I wouldn't bother to visit it again, but OK for the first time.

The castle is an Oslo must see. Our 12 year old daughter loved it and so did we. Very interesting. Very well preserved. The small brochure gives a great explanation of each room in the castle. Great views of the city too.

This ancient fort is built up on a hillside, and the old streets which wind their way among the buildings end up on top of the hill in a fortified building that must have, at one point, been the the focus of the military defenses.

We didn't stay long, but we did notice that there is an interesting Visitor's Building about halfway in, where you can learn about the times when the fort was built, and the significant events of the surrounding city. There are also tables outside this center where you can sit down and enjoy a small lunch, whether purchased there or carried in.

This was a decent site, but I'm not sure I'd make it a special visit if I'm there again.

We walked through the exterior and visited the tourist information center. It is a small and very simple fortress but we enjoyed it. We were moved by the area where the Nazis lined up and shot the Norwegian patriots. We had visited the major sites on previous visits but had never seen this attraction. It is second tier and I would recommend going to the other sites first.

We got there when we were walking along the Oslo bay and it's a nice place.
The fortress and the castle are very well maintained but we didn't go inside since we didn't have much time.
There is a nice walk in the adjacent park and you can get great views of the Oslo bay there.
