“A museum for explorers at heart”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2014

If you know of Kon Tiki, or Aku Aku, or are interested in exploration, go. The museum is a testament to the ideas, ideals, and explorations of the famed Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl. Rather than a "glory hound" (as was the impression my wife had before the visit) Heyerdahl was a serious scientist willing to risk all to make his points.

“Not my favourite”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2014

I visited as part of a coach tour, and although the story was interesting I didn't find the museum particularly engaging. If I was prioritising museums on a brief visit to Oslo I'd give this one a miss.

“Brilliant museum, incredible testament to the human spirit of adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2014

This museum is simply fantastic. It commemorates the expeditions of Thor Heyerdahl and colleagues as they set out to prove that centuries ago people had crossed the pacific on rafts. Scorned by ignorant scientists at the time Heyerdahl knew if he was to prove his theories he would have to re-enact the journeys. This museum has the actual kon-tiki raft as well as the Ra II raft and tells the fascinating story of the travels. As you read the stories you cannot fail to be impressed by their spirit and courage. If you are in Oslo, YOU MUST GO,

“What a story”

Our guide knew Thor Heyerdahl for more than 20 years and provided some good insight into this Museum. Not a large place, but well done.

“Well worth the visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

The exhibit itself is worth seeing. What makes the visit very good is the film of the idea for the voyage, constructing the boat, and then the actual voyage itself. The museum is very close to one of the ferry stops from Oslo harbor.
