“Great hotel, with some quirks”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

I just stayed here 6 nights for business. Fantastic front-desk service. The room was nice, bed really comfortable, but some reviewers have commented about the lighting and bathroom. The lighting is definitely annoying, particularly if you're looking for the bathroom light in the middle of the night. Bathroom layout is wierd, particularly where the mirror is versus the sink. Wifi service is spotty. All of these are minor, however.

The location is great and close to everything. The breakfast spread is decent, but could be better with more hot choices. Unlike the front desk service which is outstanding, the breakfast servers / attendants are remotely close to being friendly.

I didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner and the terrace lounge had private parties for the several nights I would have wanted to go there. I would stay there again.

Very nice design hotel, with a nice atmosphere. I found my room very nice (and clean). The staff was very service minded and the breakfast was great. Combined with a good location at the centre of Oslo this is a hotel I definitely would have stayed in once more.

I am sorry to report that the efforts of the nice staff are overwhelmed by the foolish rooms. The designer should be shot, nothing in the room makes any sense and form always dominates over function with negative impacts on comfort. Lightning is controlled by a silly system, the bathroom is a nightmare but the bed was very good and the location is great. I would rather go to any other nearby hotel, though...

The title describes it all. You should stay at this hotel. Love it and will be coming back shortly! The price is fine and the quality high. The roof bar is a cool place to have dinner or drinks. I'm sure you'll love it!

A lovely hotel with very helpful staff and beautiful decor.

We stayed here for a single night. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the station and well located for the main shopping areas.

The breakfast was very good although the communal coffee machine was rather overworked...

Overall a lovely stay if you are looking for something special.

We just completed our three-night stay at the Grims Grenka--we moved rooms every day, unfortunately. I want to say first that the staff is OUTSTANDING. Warm, professional, attentive, hard-working. And let me say at the outset that we are seasoned travelers and accustomed to putting up with inconvenience. But Oslo was having a heat wave and the air conditioning just did not work in our first two rooms, which made sleeping impossible. Our phones did not work, so we couldn't reach reception, and I have to concur with the reviewer who finds the bathrooms dysfunctional. Each of our rooms had different sized showers (one tiny), with different types of shower doors/shower curtains, all of which created a water mess on the bathroom floor no matter how careful we were. Two had dysfunctional hand-held showers. The stopper on one bathroom sink was always down, so you had to reach your hand into dirty water to release the water in the bowl. In two rooms, one of the bedside lights didn't work (or was missing), while in the third, there was no bedside table or light on one side of the bed. These are minor matters, but after you've moved EVERY day, the inconveniences add up. The lighting system is bizarre. Not only do some of the light switches NOT work, they are labelled things like "work and play" and "catwalk". Not clear which lights go on with these. None of the thermostats worked. We were told that the hotel has some A/C "issues". Yes, indeed. We thought the mattresses were very good.

The rooms are chic, with some functionality sacrificed. So, you enter on a lovely wooden floor which transitions to carpet, but in some rooms the transition was off by an inch or so, so you had to be careful in the night. Two of the rooms faced the street--these windows could be opened, slightly noisy in the morning. Nice light. One room faced the back of the hotel--windows could not be opened, but it was quiet. We did not stay in an atrium room.

Anyway, apart from the oddities and malfunctions in the rooms, the Q Lounge on the roof terrace is very nice, but the food prep is SLOW (one hour to get a hamburger, no one else ordering on the terrace). The view is terrific, and sunset is spectacular. Again, very nice wait staff.

The location is SUPERB and we booked early so got a deal. I would recommend it, so long as you realize that you are probably going to be inconvenienced in one way or another by the room design. I think there is some issue with the electrical system throughout the h

The first thing I was met by when I arrived was wide-smiling workers at the front desk, which filled my energy level up and I also had to put on a great big smile. They were warm, caring and professional at the same time. Took care of everything, and that made me feel special, and I like getting noticed! The room I stayed in was amazing, had great space and it gave me that "Yes"- feeling. The atmosphere in the Q-lounge was great, and to top that off, they had some lovely cocktails and drinks to enjoy, while soaking up the view of the city! This is definitely a hotel with dedicated workers, giving you the best experience possible to enjoy your stay.
