“History from 900AD”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

This is one of the unique museums in the world. This and the Vasa Museum in Stockholm both feature original ship(s) built from many centuries ago. This one is more minimal but likely because the ships are from 900AD. It's worth a quick visit, especially since Oslo (in my opinion) is not dripping with tourist sites.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

It is amazing to see the boats and items recovered from them. Additionally a bit of history and life of Viking people. Some of the displays were worn and hard to read the letters describing the items.

“Must see in Oslo”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

Seeing these Viking ships in person was an incredible experience. There are nice descriptions of each of the ships and elevated landings for picture taking. This is a must-see attraction in Oslo. Free entry with the Oslo pass.

“Viking ships!!!”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

Well we have heard the stories of vikings, but here you get to see a real viking ship. There are three ships kept in the museum along with some tools and handicrafts from the viking era which were discovered during excationins at different locations. The location of the museum is lsightly away from the main city, you need to take a bus to get here.

“Small but great!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

I absolutely loved this museum. We didn't have chance to spend long here (we were squeezing in the other museums in the area as quickly as we could) but it was time well spent and worth effort of going out to.

The museum is simple and plain, but this setting completely suits the ships they have on display - putting them to the forefront with minimal distractions. Entrance is free with the Oslo pass (I'd definitely recommend getting an Oslo Pass as it covers entrance to most museums as well as public transport in and around Oslo).

Definitely recommend it!
