Description: Alfred is a cafe with local, sustainably produced and seasonal food. We welcome the Nobel Peace Center visitors, passers-by, tourists and neighbors alike to an informal and relaxed atmosphere inside and in our outdoor patio. Our Finnish Head Chef Joni Leskinen has composed a menu combining craftsmanship and carefully selected local produce. Swedish Mattias Åstrand is our new chef in Alfred. He shares Joni’s love of the season based Nordic kitchen, and with an extra thought to both produce and guests, the dishes they create are both surprising and tasty.

“Yum, yum, yum!”
Reviewed July 5, 2012 via mobile

We had lunch at this delicious "tourist trap!" Enjoyed great house rosè, local beer and great food. The ceviche was yummy, but the highlight were the gambas (shrimp); they were a bit spicy in a great sauce. So good we actually had 2 orders! There are many choices around, all priced about the same. If you're going to spend the $, regardless of where you eat, you may as well have a great meal, sorrounded by gorgeous scenery and an attentive staff.

“Limited”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Dinner was a very limiting affair. Unless one had the 3/5 course dinner, you had only choice of 2 entrees. Nice looking place. Service was very good. A little pricey for what you ate. Food was good to very good. Would have liked more variety.

“Alfred made me an offer I couldn't refuse...”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

As for fine dining and offers, they don't come hand in hand at restaurant. Especially not in Oslo. I've read a few decent reviews of Alfred up front, so the expectations was raised.

We came in and found that the weeks 5 course menu was only 400 NOK, a bargain. The lobster bisque was grand as a starter, the fried cod with perfectly cooked asparaguses was an excellent second. The entrecote as a third dish came across nicely. The cheeses which made up the fourth dish was both tasty and interesting. The dessert was a pinapple sorbet with chocolate muffin. All in all superb food for an excellent preice.

The waiter also came up with a wine menu, to go with the dishes. A few good choices, but the chablis which was served with the bisque, was a bit tasteless.

Excellent service as well, nice attention and quick service. This restaurant is to be recomended.

“good food, good location”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

a little different than the row of neighboring restaurants. it's slightly quirky inside.. and had a concise menu. but I've been there twice and the food was fantastic. though i would say it's a place you would probably order a starter as well as I thought the fish i was given was on the small side. still excellent and went back a second time.

location is superb. you are on the corner and you can watch everyone go by for a stroll. they have plenty of space to the tables aren't crammed in together.

definitely go here on a sunny day and enjoy oslo.

“Nobel meets fish”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

very nice idea to put Alfred Nobel together with a restaurant and it is a fabolous interieur, with a lot of details, it is great food - simple but fresh. The prices are as all over Norway- ridiculous, but in this area and surrounding affordable ... a great place to eat and to chill. The norwegian poeple have a special way of service, which is cool but with a big smile ...
