Owner description: Edvard Munch bequeathed a large portion of his work to the city before his death in 1940, and this museum is the result. It contains books, paintings, drawings, scuptures and letters. The Munch Museums have changing exhibitions. Please see website for updated exhibition program.

Visiting the Munch museum with kids was great. We went from the beginning with comments from the kids that "they could have done better" (early experimental period) to "WOOOOOW!" as we moved on to his later works.

The museum itself has a very nice atmosphere, and I loved the background signs placed near all paintings and the bigger signs telling more about the period he was in while painting the artwork in the current part of the museum. Explaining the kids what to look for helped them (and me) understanding some of the magic in his art.''

Getting there is easy, just take the subway and enjoy the 5 minute walk to the museum - just follow the signs at every twist and turn on the way.

PS - buy the Oslo Pass (most hotels have them) and you can travel as much as you want by subway, bus, tram, train and have free access to lots of places in Oslo.

If you liked the fist part of the collection in the National Museum, you'll like this one as well. It's not very large but holds some amazing works. Visit the botanic garden (200m distance) nearby.

Munch 150 celebrated 150 years since the birth of Munch and the exhibition displays a large selection of his paintings chronologically and also explains their context. Surprisingly, The Scream, was hidden away in a nondescript corner, with no fanfare announcing its presence, in a large room filled with many much more impressive paintings. The only way you would know that it is one of the most famous paintings in the world is by the amount of security before you enter the museum. It is a place that makes you think
We found that the easiest way to get to it was by using he underground from the centre of Moscow as it is quite a way out of the city centre

I visited this Museum this month and it was really worth it. I'm a fan of Edvard Munch and this museum had lots of his paintings, it was not too crowded, it's very close to downtown and a breeze to get to with the subway. It's clearly marked. It has a lovely café with outdoor seating and a good Museum shop.

This is a great breakaway from central Oslo--see the fascinating work of Munch and enjoy learning about his life.

Only regret is that we couldn't take any photos inside. I completely understand the reasoning, however.
