“Needs another visit”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Ate lunch here in a large business group, and was only sorry not have had more time and more opportunity to explore the menu and the cuisine. The cod on bulgar (?) we had was original and extremely good (very fresh and tasty), and the dessert (which I normally avoid) too good to resist. Service was smiling and uncomplaining that we were a large, cost conscious group. Goes straight on my list of things to when next in Oslo. Didn't pay the bill so cant comment on value, but I had the impression that it was reasonable by local standards and given the quality.

“Fantastic meal”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

If you are a tourist and want to taste the Norwegian kitchen, you should definitely try this restaurant. (And of course Norwegians as well). I didn't have much expectation and when it comes to fish and seafood, we Norwegians are hard to impress. And this time of year, is when it is at its best. We ordered a 4 course menu. All dishes were well composed with a lot of tastes. The only mediocre was the cheese. Not bad, just OK. Why not serve Norwegian cheese. There are so many excellent cheeses from small producers. The waiter did a fabulous effort and made our evening just perfect.
We will for sure be back, because this was a really pleasant surprise

“Nice place with consistent quality”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

I find Havsmak to be one of the better restaurants for fish and seafood in town. There are more pricy options down by the waterside at Aker Brygge like Lofoten and Solsiden that might be tempting in the summer, but they are no better. Seafood plateau is always a winner as are usually the others like halibut and cod. Traditional Lutefisk is best in town.
It is not a gourmet place, ref other’s comments about wine but always a good meal. Best place, but more expensive is Mares at Frogner.

“Delicious in Oslo”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Restaurant Havsmak - located between the Ibsen Museum, the Royal Castle and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the centre of Oslo - offer a limited, but very tasteful meny. Very nice fish courses! Apart from a (little) slow service before the aperitifs were served, the rest of the dinner - and the service! - was excellent. But be aware, the combination of gin and angostura (aperitif) was quite strong in taste. However, the recommended wine was really good.
