Description: Cru focuses on the combination of food and wine, and the restaurant at Majorstua uses mostly Norwegian ingredients. In the restaurant uppstairs food is served as set 3, 5 and 7-course meals that change with the seasons. In the cellar there is a cosy winebar, on the menu you can find small dishes to share, maincourses or just some snacks. Cru has one of Oslo's largest wine lists, with wines in all price categories both by the glass or bottle.

“Big Hype but short on delivery”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2012

The hype for Cru when it opened it was the best and most innovative restaurant in Oslo, where everyone wanted a reservation. Once the coveted reservation was acquired I was disappointed in my very high expectations. The food is good, but I was expecting excellent. My expectation was of great Scandinavian cuisine and it fell short on delivery. High prices for food with minimal innovation and the presumption they are making food and combining flavors that you never had before.

“A friendly gourmet feast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2011

Cru is a place where the waiter carefully describes the wine and the food before serving. The guests swirl the wine in the glass, as in wine tasting, and you smell the bouquet of the wine before drinking it.
One can eat quite reasonable, but if the occasion calls for something special, it is possible to put together menus of three, five or seven dishes. We went all the way down the gourmet adventures road – seven dish along with our waiter’s wine recommendation for each of them-
The service was good, the servings was great and the food and wine - well matching - was excellent!

“One of the best food in Oslo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2011

I have been here over 20 times and i must say it is one of the best places in Oslo for food and wine, and i have been eating a lot of places from El Bulli to small bistro in Paris so i know what i am talking about.. The food here is so perfect beacause it is always well balanced between, sweetnes, sour, salt og textures... I am amazed that this is not better rated... Trust me, go and enjoy ;)

“Great atmosphere, shame about the food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2011

As always, you have to expect to pay double for average food when comparing Oslo to most other cities. That said, I had high hopes for this place despite the above average prices.

I went there with my partner and spent close to $200 which included only 2 beers and a glass of wine.

We did go for the full food menu, and were impressed with the starter which was a rather good home made soup. Then it all went downhill. The lamb course was tiny, dry and tasteless. The fish main, although larger was overdone.

As for deserts; frankly mine was fair and my wife's dreadful having practically no flavour at all. Not that I am a gourmet cook, but had I made those myself I probably would have been disappointed so you can imagine I was somewhat annoyed for having to pay close to $20 a piece for desert.

The only plus for this restaurant is location and atmosphere. The service is about usual for Oslo (i.e. awful) so overall I suggest you avoid.

One more qualifier. I am sure locals love this restaurant but then again there are so few restaurants in Oslo of which most are poor it is not as if there is much in the way of food education and choice. I can only warn you that if you are from a cuisine loving town the you should absolutely stay away from this place.

“Great food - But their "vine package" makes it really pricy...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2011

This is a great restaurant! Nice food great atmosphere. But: If you go for their "vine package" you can eat at the best restaurants in Oslo for the same price...

Stay away from their vine-package and choose a bottle instead.
