We were a group of friends who planned on having a nice Caribbean meal at Ti Punch - something that is dearly missed in Oslo and something we were greatly looking forward to since some of us are from the Caribbean.
Of main courses there were two that read as Caribbean - the jerk chicken and the hotpot with goat. Since the goat hotpot was not available we all ended up ordering the jerk chicken and the "Caribbean snacks" which consisted of fried cassava ribbons, fried plantain and accra.
Although we were the only people ordering food, the time between ordering and being served was well over 30 minutes .
Presentation of the jerk chicken was nice, but there was no jerk taste to the chicken...actually no discerning taste whatsoever, definitely not jerk. The rice and peas that went with it was also lacking taste.
Needing that little something to improve the taste we asked for pepper sauce...which was met by puzzled look on the waiter's face - we had to explain it wasn't the jerk sauce ...but a hot sauce...which is a typical condiment t have with caribbean meals. We ended up getting some crushed chilies after we explained a bit.
The accra (savoury fried balls of bread with saltfish) tasted of plain flour - no saltfish taste.
We were totally disappointed with the food and quite frankly it was a tasteless experience.
The service was also very lacking, nonchalant answers to our inquiries, very long wait between ordering and being served.
If you are familiar with caribbean cuisine and flavours, this will be a very dissappointing experience for you.
Ps - they do have a stall at Oslo Street Food and they serve a good fried bread with saltfish which tastes excellent!
