Positives:Villa Park is excellent for those travelling on a budget. I was a bit worried that booking one of the cheapest places I could find would mean it would be of a poor standard but not at all. In fact the the standard of the room and bathroom were equal, if not better than the much more expensive hotel across the other side of the park where I had been staying for a conferences for the preceding few days. The location is excellent, a nice area, close to tram and bus stops, close to back entrance of National Theatre station where the airport train stops. Next to a lovely park and the Royal Palace and only 10/15 minute walk into the city centre/waterfront. It was clean, and even lived up to the standards of my boyfriend who can be very picky about bed sheets in hotels. The self catering facilities were very good, a large fridge, oven, hob and adequate pots, pans and cutlery. The photos on booking.com are an accurate reflection of what to expect, certainly in our room. We had no problems with noise. We would definitely come back again.
Negatives:Very little to dislike. A minor point would be that having the washing machine in the bathroom restricted how far you could open the shower door which made it a bit of a squeeze to get in if you are a bit overweight like us. However the usefulness of having a washing machine, particularly on a longer stay outweighs that. There was a notice in the bathroom saying that the hairdryer must be returned to the hook provided before leaving otherwise there would be a 500 NOK fine which was odd because there was no hairdryer on the hook. We eventually located it under the bathroom sink and my boyfriend insisted on putting it on the hook just to make sure we weren't fined if we left it under the sink instead. The notice is just a bit confusing! Our room had a balcony which was shared with the room next door. We thought this was a nice bonus feature but some people might prefer more privacy. We also had a room with an extra bed up a ladder. The ladder is quite steep and there is no safety rail on the mezanine floor so just something to consider if you have children. I liked the free wireless but I did find with two of us using it that it became slow for the second person. All these points are pretty minor though, there was nothing which would put me off returning again and I thought it offered great value for money compared to other hotels in Oslo.
