Description: Nice neighbourhood restaurant and pub in Oslo's main shopping street, Bogstadsveien. A wellknown meeting spot with soul and atmosphere, and a history dating back to 1885. Since then, the premises have been housing both a pharmacy and a bakery. As a restaurant, The Broker has been an informal and popular hang out place with many musicians and artists among its regular guests. The newer Broker retains a classic, brown interior, decorated ceilings and large chandeliers. The Broker has a good selection of beer, wine and liquor, preferably from smaller Norwegian producers. It has of course a great selection of tasty dishes on the menu as well. Everything is made from scratch and based on seasonal ingredients. Atmosphere and friendliness is Brokers trademark. The Broker has the ability to make you feel relaxed and welcome - and once you have been there, chances are you'll repeat the visit.

“Nice Pub but Dry!”

Food was good but when I visited in November 2012 it had lost its drinks license so soft drinks only available.

“Your neighborhood pub when you're not in your own neighborhood”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2012

Yes, there are newer and 'trendier' eating and drinking spots along one of Oslo's best-known shopping streets (Bogstadveien), but there's something about "The Broker" that makes it just plain comfortable and fun. Maybe it's the people watching. This place attracts a full range of patrons from Holmenkollen fashionistas to blue collar laborers. The former like to sit in the front windows or at the sidewalk tables (to see and be seen) so there are always amusing encounters to watch. Sometimes it's the food, but sometimes not--quality varies although we think it's more often on the plus than negative side (maybe the 'bad' days are chef's day off?). The prices are fair for Oslo. The ambiance purposefully downheel and predictably dark (and in former times, smokey...but no longer). In other words, a great place for a glass of wine, cup of coffee, a pint of beer ... or a salad or simple dinner. We like it and will continue dropping in on every trip to Oslo when we're looking for the closest thing to the 'pub back home'.

“Do not go for the food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2011

It's a decent place to go for a drink, but if you want to eat you better go somewhere else. At least judging from my experience recently. I was there for recently, really hungry so I was in the market for a burger. Knowing that burgers tend to be quite dull in lunch places like this I went for their new alternative, the entrecote sandwich. There's nothing better than a proper steak sandwich. This one was far from it. First of all there was almost no entrecote and what was of it was over cooked and didn't taste much. It came on ordinary, dull "breakfast" bread, which was a bit strange. And in between there was heeps of majonaise and some kind of grape/apple/mango dressing which didn't go with the meat AT ALL. If this dish is representative for their food in general, nobody should eat there in my opinion.

“Old, rustic restaurant with okay food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2011

Old restaurant at Majorstua in Oslo. Okay food with disinterested service staff. Okay place for business lunches and afternoon burgers - but otherwise stay clear. There are better places in the immediate proximity, like Bolivar's just down the street.
