Plus: Great interpretation of common dishes.
Minus: can be a bit slow when crowded (which it usually is)

Although I enjoyed my lunch here I did feel that it was rather over rated. There was nothing wrong with the food it just lacked the touches that make a meal special. No bread or water offered, very efficient service but without any real interaction. Chicken was ok, the vegetables and mushroom sauce was the best part of the meal.

“Great athmosphere and food”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

Good location, great atmosphere and good food! They also have a good variety of typical norwegian dishes. A little bit expensive (...hence not 5 stars)

“Food for foodies!”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

This is the best restaurant in Tromsø, no doubt!
The menu is not large, but everything is excellent.
Try the degustacion menu, you will weep of joy by the quality of the food. (The wine menu is also very good). The staff is attentive, polite and friendly.
The restaurant has become really good at using local, short-travelled food of high quality.
The prices are not cheap, but if you compare to other restaurants in Norway at the same quality level; Emma´s is a bargain!

“A great place to try reindeer”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Went here for an early dinner (6pm) on our first night in Tromsø. Glad to find dining at 6pm was not a problem although we were the only diners until 7pm when a few others came in. The interior contributes to a nice ambiance (we sat downstairs, not sure how things are upstairs which I understand is different even if the menu is the same) and had a view of the well-lit Tromsø Cathedral. The staff was friendly though not super knowledgeable on the wine (and yes wine is ridiculously expensive in Norway but that is true for all tr4estauranst not just for Emma’s). The waiter had to go back a couple of times to double check on the wine what is was and how it was called. Given the prices, this was a bit disappointing as you’d expect a bit more show / knowledge / spin / decorum for that price. We were told they had just started serving the winter menu today or yesterday. For starters we shared the scallops (see picture) which was an imaginative dish but tiny (as were the scallops, to my surprise). As a main, my husband had the duck which came highly recommended. He loved it but I thought it wasn’t that great and a bit overcooked. However I had the reindeer which was amazing, succulent and flavourful. The accompanying vegetables and the cabbage and apple mash was very special and tasteful too (the mash was only lukewarm unfortunately). A selection of Norwegian cheese for after was a great choice and the waiter was happy to write down the names of the cheese we had. The pudding we shared was also delicious. And yes the bill was high but again I don’t think it was exceptional by Norwegian Standards. Can recommend it.
