Visited on a Monday night and the restaurant was practically empty. However we enjoyed this meal so much we would go back. I had cod tongues and salmon and my partner had the reindeer and white chocolate mouse.

It is expensive £230 for two course, bottle of wine and two aperitifs, but Norway is a least twice the price as the UK.

We went here two days before departing Tromso. I am only sorry we did not discover this gem earlier. We had Crab Ravioli to start followed by Moose sausage and Reindeer steak for main. What a combination! It worked extremely well with lots of alternative flavours. Our waiter for the evening was very friendly and advised us to go down the house wine route selecting a nice Chablis to start and a Dolcetto D'asti with the main. Excellent choice and overall value for money. When can you say that in Norway!

The Compagniet Restauration is the oldest restaurant in Tromsø and looks charming old-fashioned inside. We had made our table reservation only half an hour before dinner by Facebook and were kindly welcomed. Our waiter, a ca. 20 years old guy, was more professional than all other service persons I've seen in Norway so far and also one of the friendliest.

The meals were really excellent. Please note that you won't go to this restaurant if you feel for "all you can eat". The dishes are rather small but very high in quality and taste. I recommend to order the 5 course menu for around 700 NOK (without wine). The courses were served in the right time, not too long waiting and not too less. After the menu I felt not overeaten and I neither had the urge for more. The meals were all very delicious and with interesting combinations.

We did not find the prices to be much higher than other (much worse) restaurants in Norway.

We would definitely return here anytime!

Visited Compagniet in Feb 2013. The food was superb and worthy of any fine dining restaurant. The king crab starter was beautifully presented and delicious. The main course comes as two smaller tasting plates which is a great way to experience the local flavours. The reindeer steak with white chocolate foam was amazing, as was the moose sausage. Cannot fault the food and the service. As all things in Norway it is expensive, for two persons with two courses and two drinks it was £150. Can highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out.

We went to the original restaurant on the main street, not the one on the harbour. We had the traditional Cod local specialty, with the freshest fish we have ever tasted! Wonderful food, great service, and a lovely, traditional intimate room, decorated with dark blue wood panelled walls, timber floor, either damask table cloths and simple white wooden chairs. The deserts were also fabulous. Quite an expensive meal, but so worth it.
