“Interesting & free!”

Lovely gallery space with very interesting photos, over 3 floors with a small gift shop and there is even a cafe, though we didn't bother with it. Nice to wander round for an hour and warm up!

“First-rate (free!) photography museum with a local touch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

A beautifully laid out photography gallery. Ground floor had visiting artists, first & second floors was local historic & contemporary photos. (One was a fascinating portrayal of a Norwegian / Murmansk fishing exchange).
And all for free!
Come here, then sample a superb coffee and cake across the road at Elis.

“Interesting city’s past and its fishing industry”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

We really liked this photography museum. Can’t believe it’s free. The bottom floor has changing contemporary exhibits, the other two floors have photographs from the past 100 years or so -- ranging from portraits of citizens in the mid-1800s to the Tromsø of today, some individual stories, and a history of trade and relationships between the local fishermen and the Russian trawlers that frequently made port here. I’d suggest you start from the top and work your way down so that you have more time for the historical stuff. The top floor in particular has a slideshow presenting historical photos of streets and intersections in the town along with what the same street or intersection looks like today – I found this very interesting, to see what had changed and what had remained the same.
