“Beer fest in the arctic.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Went to the mack's beer hall to tour and test the different micro brews there. Ended up with a full your of the hall, brewery and even the founders flat on tip of the brewery. Got totally tipsy after at least 12 samples. A great place with a great history and really nice people.

“Alcoholics and polar-bear/beer lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

In this dark dungeon of a bar- you'll meet the locals who actually drink on a monday morning, and a tuesday, and a friday.. but who would you expect to be at abar that closes before the others open? It's still worth a visit.

“Nice premises”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

I liked the location and the premises - a very nice place for a beer or two. The staff didn't have a clue about the concept "service minded", but I don't bother much about that anyway if the beer is ok. I was there as part of a conference dinner, and they served some nice takeaway served on a paper plate with plastic cutlery. Well, I wasn't that impressed but I still had more than enough.

“Go for the beer, have something to eat while you are at it.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

Although very few people would go to Olhallen to eat, you may end up eating while you are there. Despite being THE place traditionally to go drinking, it doesnt mean you only get pale lager here. No, despite the standard beers to be found, you also have the seasonal variety from the big brewery, a shifting microbeer from almost right above the pub, and a handful of beers from other 'favorite' breweries of the staff, like Delirium Tremens or Nogne. When it comes to food, you can choose between the 'old school' options of lapskaus, a traditional pork and vegetable stew, or a sausage, or more 'modern' bar food like tapas, nachos, or reindeer jerky. Although you could eat better in many places, there arent many where you pay this little, and experience the great atmosphere.

“Don't miss it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

I did not eat here so can't comment on food

Norway is not the best place in the world to get a drink. It's expensive and not as widely available as in most countries. So to arrive in Tromso and find Mack's Beer Hall was a delight.

It's not pretty, it's not flash ... but they have a polar bear in the corner and a wide selection of decent beer (it's the brewery tap for Mack's Brewery which is next door). Best bet is to go for one of the "taster" options ... choose the number of beers you try, served in 1/3 or 1/2 pint measures for a reasonable (for Norway) price.

I'd go again. Try it for yourself
