Although fairly simple, this is probably the most spectacular visit that we made in Tromso.

You start off with a wide-screen panoramic film in the theatre. The Spitsbergen film is projected in English and is absolutely stunning. Filmed from the air, the images fill your full field of view meaning that as the (presumably) helicopter banks, you automatically lean to bank with it. At times you really do feel that you are moving across the landscape and react to the movements. The images were stunningly beautiful and, as we were going to Spitsbergen a few days later, was of particular interest to us.

Once you have seen the video, the other great attraction is the seals in the giant water tank. You can view them from the gallery above the water, or from the underwater walkway. It is fascinating and very relaxing to watch. There are several other smaller aquaria with other Arctic fauna. Although there are not many displays, they are beautifully presented. Polaria is definitely worth a visit and dedicating it a relaxing hour or two.

A worthwhile experience. We watched two short films -- on the Northern Lights and Svalbard -- and both were well-produced, enjoyable, and enlightening. The exhibits captured our attention, especially the living sea creatures, such as the extremely large King Crabs, the various types of fish, and of course the seals. We watched the seal feeding/training, which was entertaining. All-in-all, a good time and I'm glad we went.

One TripAdvisor issue is that the review question, "What sort of visit was this?" has only the following possible responses: Couples, Family (young children), Family (teens), Friends, Business, or Solo. Our visit was our family, but my kids are early-30's, and there is no option for anything like that, so I'm putting down Family (teens) because that's the closest option available.

Very good for kids, interactive displays, films. Very good aquarium and seals show (check the times).

If you want more information about Polar explorers it is better to go to Polar museum.

Interesting but a bit disappointing. I was expecting much more given the review I read about it. The place is small and the gift shop is the biggest part of it. The documentaries projected are interesting though.

As usual, a classy Norwegian museum - very informative about the arctic, especially flora and fauna. Worth a visit (but I liked the Polar Museum more ...).
