My wife and I opted for the Amilie after research on prices and online recommendations.
I've given it 5/5 based on how well it does at what it IS, and not what people criticise on here it for failing to be what it's not even TRYING to be. This ISN'T a flashy, opulent boutique hotel with football-pitch sized rooms adorned wall to wall luxury, swimming pool, sauna and gym, and that's because it's NOT charging the prices that come with all that.
Amilie is a cheap, clean and cosy city-stay bargain. Right in the heart of the city, it offers small and functional accommodation with en-suite shower rooms, TV, fridge, and daily replenished tea and coffee facilities. The beds are comfortable and, despite its location, there's no noise from the outside. The breakfast is BRILLIANT, offering a huge variety of unflashy but tasty items to suit every imaginable taste, and with a 'help yourself, pile it high and revisit as much as you want' buffet service that I personally love. In addition, the dining area is open access at night and has a micro and even has fresh tea and coffee laid out to help yourself. The price even came with evening soup and bread, again on a help yourself basis.
All this for what was easily the cheapest hotel going? If you're fine with staying at what I've described above, then Amilie is the cheapest and nicest option- you save a tiny bit (£8) of you opted for 'City Living' hotel, but they don't offer any breakfast at all - try finding a decent breakfast in Tromso for that price!
