My wife and I opted for the Amilie after research on prices and online recommendations.

I've given it 5/5 based on how well it does at what it IS, and not what people criticise on here it for failing to be what it's not even TRYING to be. This ISN'T a flashy, opulent boutique hotel with football-pitch sized rooms adorned wall to wall luxury, swimming pool, sauna and gym, and that's because it's NOT charging the prices that come with all that.

Amilie is a cheap, clean and cosy city-stay bargain. Right in the heart of the city, it offers small and functional accommodation with en-suite shower rooms, TV, fridge, and daily replenished tea and coffee facilities. The beds are comfortable and, despite its location, there's no noise from the outside. The breakfast is BRILLIANT, offering a huge variety of unflashy but tasty items to suit every imaginable taste, and with a 'help yourself, pile it high and revisit as much as you want' buffet service that I personally love. In addition, the dining area is open access at night and has a micro and even has fresh tea and coffee laid out to help yourself. The price even came with evening soup and bread, again on a help yourself basis.

All this for what was easily the cheapest hotel going? If you're fine with staying at what I've described above, then Amilie is the cheapest and nicest option- you save a tiny bit (£8) of you opted for 'City Living' hotel, but they don't offer any breakfast at all - try finding a decent breakfast in Tromso for that price!

Room Tip: Stuff yourself rotten with the breakfast and it'll see you through to tea time of you're kee...

Clean rooms VERY tiny though. Some updates of late but all signs of a tired old hotel. Price paid (about 175. USD) which is cheap for Tromsø is a bit high for this quality of hotel.

Breakfast was ok... Front Desk staff was friendly and helpful. Two old guys sitting outside of the entrance smoking hand rolled cigarettes made the atmosphere less enjoyable.

Centrally located but I would rather stay elsewhere next time.

The hotel was conveniently located near the church and the tourist information center, was right off the major shopping street, and was only a few blocks away from the central city square. The hotel was quiet and clean. The breakfast was good and filling. They served free coffee and waffles during the day, which was good for re-energizing us after we were outside on foot all day. We were visiting in June, so the sun never set. The window coverings "leaked" a bit of light, so my wife wore eye "sleep shades" that she uses on international flights. This hotel is clean, safe, functional, and unpretentious. The staff are smart, confident, and helpful.

We picked the Amalie for an overnight in Tromso based on the reviews we read on TA. The hotel was just as described, warm and friendly, good sized rooms, comfortable beds, free wifi, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, etc etc. but best of all was the extremely helpful and pleasant staff. They took time at check in to acquaint us with Tromso and point is in the direction of the tourist office, and before we ventured out showed us how to make warm waffles (complimentary, as was the tea and coffee). Breakfast was as good as anynof themlarger hotels we stayed in, and if,possible the four or five selections of bread, even fresher and more delicious. Without asking for a late checkout the next day, the owner suggested we keep our room until just before our departure via the Hurtigruten. We recommend the Amalie highly.
PS. The hotel is locatednjustntwo blocks from the hurtigruten dock.

Small but cosy hotel, perfectly located in the center of Tromso. Rooms are clean, with enough space for some luggage. Bathroom is quite small, but usable. Sadly, no bidet in it. Curtains don't obscure completely, sleeping in summer could be difficult for light sleepers. Oversized cushion, uncomfortable.
Very friendly staff, breakfast adequate, easy parking nearby, although not free.
Despite a few cons, I would probably return.

We stayed at this hotel after spending 2 days in Sommaroy. Amalie has a great location in the city centre. Best of all, it's opposite the airport bus stop, so getting to the airport was not a problem at all. There are lots of eateries around the location as well,
The rooms are small and basic but has everything you need.
What i like is that we can have waffles in the afternoon in the cafe.
Price is reasonable as well. Will certainly recommend this hotel

The summer is not high season in Tromsø, and for 695 crowns, this was a bargain. The room was relatively big, had a spacey bath room, a desk, a small table and even a glimse of the Tromsø sound out the window.

I hadn't been in Tromsø for years, and wondered where it might be. I came with the bus, and it's 100 steps from the bus terminal. It's also close to the harbour, the Hurtigruta terminal and the 1,5 shopping streets.

A standard breakfast (which f.y.i. is rather ample in Norwegian hotels), well made. Good coffee. Very helpful staff, as is the norm in North Norway.
