Great background information to a subject I suspect few travelers from outside Norway know about. It ranged from seal hunting, early live in Finnmark and Svalbard to those intrepid explorers Amundsen and Nansen. Do go and find out for yourselves.

A small museum of which the interior is very traditional...very interesting information on what it was like to be a trapper, their lifestyle, homes etc. Also sections on polar explorers particularly Amudson and Nansen. Definitely worth a visit...make sure to pick up a guide booklet in English which you hand back at the end of the visit. Leave about an hour for it and if you want to go to the Tromso museum you can buy a ticket for both at the same time saving 40 kr

After chasing the lights each night we had some time during the day.
The museum is well laid out and a very good insight into the history of the region. I am not so much a museum person, but would recommend visiting if you have time.

If you interested in the Arctic, don't miss the Polar Museum. You will learn a lot about ways of life in the region throughout history, its natural history, as well as about the Arctic explorers who pushed the envelope. Not all the displays had English explanations----oddly inconsistent. But you can pick up a little guide pamphlet in different languages.

This little museum is an absolute gem, and such good value for money, well worth a visit, just a shame that more of the artifacts did not have english explanations.
