One of the most beautiful experience of my life... 6 hours of tour with a fantastic guide... Marcus was not only a guide but also a friend. He helped me with photos, he gave me a lot of iadvices, he teached us what northern lights are and he sent me some unbelievable photos... And what can i say about the fantastic dinner around a fire and in front of the northern lights? Wonderful!!! I have no doubt..when I'll come back in Tromso I'll book another incredible tour with Marcus and his staff... Takk!!!

“If you're serious about seeing the Northern Lights - book with Arctic Fishing Adventures!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

My mum and I visited Tromsø, Norway for 6 nights over New Years with the aim of seeing the Northern Lights. After doing some research on Trip Advisor and talking with friends, we decided to book two hunts with Arctic Fishing Adventures as we had heard good things about Marcus Ahlund.

The weather was working against us on the first night 30/12/13 (heavy snowstorms) so Marcus (the tour guide) and Paul (the driver) drove us to the Finnish border to see if our odds were better there. It was there that they built a campfire and we ate a fish stew, a typical meal in the region. Unfortunately the snow storm persisted so we drove back to Tromsø where, despite low activity and cloud cover, Marcus managed to find a clearing and we saw the lights for the first time. As it was low activity, they were difficult to see with the naked eye, however our cameras picked up the action.

The second night we were out (1/1/14), we had much better luck. The weather was clear and there was medium to high activity. Already at 7pm we could see faint displays, while we drove to our first vantage point. Words cannot describe how amazing the lights are... magical, awesome, awe inspiring, spectacular... just doesn't seem to do it justice. At times the display is so unbelievable that even the cameras can't capture its beauty. Marcus was extremely patient going from person to person to assist with camera settings. Even more so when he was taking pictures of individuals in front of the lights.

We will forever remember our two hunts.. Marcus energetically and attentively looking out the window, the tasty camp fireside meals, how delicious a hot chocolate can be, the moose grazing on the side of the road and the real adventure of racing around the Norwegian countryside, knowing that we may see nothing of the northern lights but always, always hoping!

We could not be happier with our experience and would highly recommend Marcus and Arctic Fishing Adventures.

“Dream come true”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

It's been a dream since i was a child to see the northern lights. After so many years, i finally decided to visit Tromso. And since these are natural occurrences, i wanted to maximize the chances of a sighting by going with a guide whose priority is to ensure his guests have a great time. and my expectations were exceeded!

Marcus picked us up in a small van, and drove us about an hour out of the city. On the way, we were shown a short video that gave us a good understanding of the aurora borealis. Everyday before each trip, Marcus will do his research on the cloud cover and solar activity to determine where is the best spot to bring the group, and he also keeps in touch with some other guides to exchange pointers.

The night started off with some faint lights, and after a couple of stops, it soon grew to a spectacular display of green and red lights dancing across the sky above our heads. Being a small group, we could easily spread out without getting into one another's cameras. Marcus also went to every single guest to make sure that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves, and patiently helped us set up our tripods and camera settings if we needed help. He also took beautiful pictures of each of us against the backdrop of northern lights with his camera.

The evening ended with a delicious fish stew over a campfire, complete with sparklers (it was 31 Dec).

Although tours with smaller groups are more expensive, i feel that every cent is well worth it (after all we travelled halfway round the world already). We heard from tourists who went with those big tour buses - the experience is just different. The advantage of smaller groups is that you can stop almost anywhere along the way, and the service is of course more personalised. After this tour, we went with another guide, and felt that Marcus was still the best!

“Northern Lights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2014

We booked last minute to chase the Northern Lights on 11 January 2014 and were not disappointed. We stopped in a couple of locations (one impromptu as they suddenly appeared). Marcus was an excellent guide & very knowledgeable. Once the lights had disappeared & did not look like they were coming back that night, Marcus produced snow shoes with a walk across the mountain to the edge of the fjord for those that wanted. I would highly recommend this trip, but take a decent camera if you want to capture the Northern Lights.

“Marcus Aurora - Northern Lights Chase”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2014

Me and my dad joined Marcus for his Aurora trip last night 15/01/2014 and had the most amazing experience! We witnessed the lights from a few different locations all of which were beautiful but it wasn't until we got into the mountains when we were given an opportunity to try out snow shoeing. Seeing the lights from the top of a mountain under a full moon at midnight was a totally unreal experience so thank you again for such a great time. Also the Dried fish stew was totally delicious!! would highly recommend to anyone.
