The Scandic Grand Hotel was an excellent base for me and my girlfriend's trip to see the northern lights, cosy and comfortable room set in a fantastic, central location in Tromsø. Free breakfast was a bonus and had a good variety of options. The staff couldn't have done enough for us and were very helpful. The only problem with this hotel was the construction work started too early in the morning and also the scaffolding spoiled our view a little.
However, once that work is finished, I'm sure the hotel will be even better.
Would recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again, very good value for money.
Several big problems with this particular Scandic. They are currently adding two floors on top so there’s construction between 7 and 7. There’s only a dinner buffet unless they happen to close for a private event. They are also undergoing some level of renovation throughout and I stayed in several rooms over several trips that had been renovated but the condition was more like they had not been done yet. The bathrooms were new but the floor, wall paper and curtains should be replaced. All of the furniture looked as if it was junk brought over from the wretched Scandic that they closed by the airport. All of those things were tolerable for the price but I found out on Thursday night from 10 to 1 in the morning that there’s a nightclub underneath and I could hear the music from anywhere in the building through the walls including the top floor. I moved to the Scandic Ishavshotel where all of the rooms are nice and modern and the breakfast fantastic. Book early as tourism is always strong for the northern lights or the midnight sun.
