The hotel is own by the Norwegian Military, which explains the spartan decor. I have stayed here 4 times. Accomodation in Tromsø is expensive, so this place is good value for money. It is out of town, but we have normally walked into town. We stay at Sydspssen because Tromsø centre can get very noisy at night, especially in the summer, so Sydspissen is the best place if you want some peace. Telegrafbukta beach is right next to the hotel.

The rooms are spartan, but immaculately clean, and you can take your breakfast out onto the deck in summer.

Having stayed in a few hotels in the town centre before, was a little
surprised to find myself a two mile walk from the high street. Room is a bit spartan (no bath, only a shower), but as long as you have a room facing the back of the hotel, you'll have a good view out across the fjord.

Breakfast - well, every Norwegian hotel I've stayed in has had pretty
mediocre breakfast. OK, it's included in the price, but it's still a choice of two cereals and a lot of bits of meat.
