“Small but interesting”
Review of Nordland Museum

Nordland Museum
Ranked #9 of 57 things to do in Bodo

Attraction details
Owner description: The museum is a popular spot for outings among the people of Bodo. The grounds were purchased by the Nordland Museum in 1938 and all the buildings there have been relocated from various other places in Nordland. In the boathouses we find the Nordland Museum’s boat collection. The big grey boathouse houses the country’s only Nordland Jekt, the ”Anna Karoline”. She was built in 1876 and brought ashore here in Bodosjoen in 1959. The ”jekt” were cargo vessels used to carry stockfish and other goods to Bergen for over 400 years. Mid-summer event with a range of activities. Guided tours available on request.

“Small but interesting”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

All in Norweigan, depicts local fishing through the ages, and how the town has grown through time in models and photographs which need no translation. A brief introduction in various languages is available at the ticket office.

“Don't miss!”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

This museum is a gem! Their exhibit on the Lofoten Islands, the Sami people, the exhibit on the city and WWII, and the video of the town are an excellent way to spend an hour in the town. The person in charge of the museum was very helpful in providing translation booklets for the exhibits. Also, at 50 Kr per person, it was one of the few "bargains" in Norway.

“The building is worth the admission price.”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

The local museum is housed in one of the few buildings left standing after the Nazis flatted the town in 1940. A lovely place to visit and worth the NOK50 entrance fee and 45 minutes of my time. Make sure you go downstairs and check out the surprised fish exhibit.

“Average museum”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

A very small museum with exhibitions on some interesting local history. One shouldn't expect too much, as Bodø itself is rather small, therefore enjoy the museum for what it is, not what it could be.
