we stopped off here because we were curious to see the site of the olympic games. i didn't expect the ski run to be so high, there is no snow at this time of year so we were surprised to see skiers using the slopes. they are hosed down with water in order to make them usable. it was really great to see this. made it real

It was awe-inspiring to be able to walk or take a chairlift to the top of the olympic ski jump and look over the top

It's was very cool to see this place. I totally like Lillehammer, the city are quite and peaceful, as the olympic Park ski jumping you can see over the city when you up there and it was nicer if you go up on the cable to top, dare you!?

We drove ourselves to Lillehammer from our hotel at Gardermoen, Oslo. The drive itself was beautiful, with spectacular scenery on all sides. The village itself was a treat and some of our prettiest photos were taken as we drove through the little backstreets, past snow-covered houses on the slopes overlooking the valley. We browsed in the museum for a short time, then went to the ski area. We'd hoped to be able to ride the Chair Lift, but were told that they could not allow us to do so because there were no staff on duty at the top of the Chair Lift. Consequently, it was only skiers who were allowed to ride on it. We found this disappointing, because we've never encountered a Chair Lift before that prohibited the public from riding it because there were no staff at the top. For example, previously we've ridden the Chair Lift on Mt. Blanc, Chamonix and also at Mt. Aleyska, Alaska, and there was no one there to 'catch' us at either of those places. (If skiers could ride the Lillehammer Chair Lift safely with skis attached, I venture to say we could have done the same without skis). I'd suggest that if you plan to visit this Chair Lift, phone ahead and check whether you'll be allowed on it. It was a perfect day, and the Chair Lift was the main attraction for us when we went there, and it was a long drive from Oslo - only to discover we could not ride on it. Overall, the Lillehammer region and areas between it and Oslo are well worth exploring because the scenery is beautiful along the way - which compensated somewhat for our disappointment at the Chair Lift.

What an incredible site to see! We were dropped off at the top and the walked down the 954 steps. It's not easy and once you start going down, you've got to go all the way. We were shocked to see that you can pay to slide down part of it in a tube (crazy). We didn't try that!
