Visited Maihaugen today, and we had an absolutely fantastic day.
Activites for the children (5-8 year olds), quizes with very nice prices for the children.
They have actors performing from the different time periods,
and they provide excellent information about the differences between then and now.

A little pricey to eat/drink, but park/museum is the same in Norway.

You do need atleast 4 hours if you want to experience everything.

Thank BK B

Very nice collection of norwegian houses through history, all in very nice and quiet surroundings.
Also some animals for the youngest kids.
Maybe not so interesting for older kids not mature enough to appreciate history

Let the kids roam a little and feel what it was like to live in a house from the 1700s. The fact that you can be inside some of these buildings, touching things, experiencing it first-hand is great! You must not miss this :)

Interresting view of Norway through the centuries. Loved the walk around this lovely park. Monday the museum is closed and most of the outer buildings locked...

I have visited Maihaugen many, many times, but I always enjoy it. It being an open-air museum it is nicest on a nice summer day, but it`s also nice to go there on special occations - like the Christmas market they hold in December.

There is a permanent exhibition about the history of Norway and the Norwegian people inside the museum`s main building. There is also a pretty good gift shop and a cafe. The main exhibition is outside, divided into two main parts: one (the rural collection) with very old houses dating back to the 17th century (I think) and a newer part where they have reconstructed a city street with houses from the early 1900`s).

On special days they have activities in the houses. Check their website to find the special events.

If you go on a nice day in summer: bring a picnic basket and a blanket, and you can sit down somewhere on the grass or on the stairs of one of the houses in the rural collection.

Maihugen is the largest museum outside of Oslo so plan on spending a few hours there.

Thank Maje
