We stayed one night here with a Trafalgar Tour. Most of the public areas in the hotel were much nicer than those in other Scandic hotels Trafalgar used on this tour.

The room, however, is what brings a stay down to 2 stars for me. The room was very small. There was hardly room to walk between the bed and the TV hanging on the wall. Beds have those 2 inch mattress toppers that smash flat when you lie on them. It's a mattress "topper" - NOT a mattress. There was a small refrigerator inside the night stand on one side of the bed. A small table and 2 chairs. Hard to find a place to open up your suitcase. Room was very stuffy and warm, when we first went in. Didn't see any way to control the temperature so we had to open a window to let some air in.

The bathroom is probably THE WORST I have ever seen anywhere. The shower is extremely narrow and there is no door - just a small divider for the very front part. See picture. There was not a single place in the bathroom to put any toiletries. I dad to put them outside in the closet area. No amenities.

The room did appear clean.

Breakfast is free, according to the "elevator type sign" that was our room decoration. See pic of what is hanging across from the bed.

Wifi was free and worked pretty well.

We really wouldn't choose this hotel if we had a choice. Coming back to the room is Not a relaxing experience and using the bathroom and shower is an ordeal.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group and I have absolutely no complaints. Our room on the 5th floor although not large, had nice decor, a very comfortable bed and an opening window which let in the lovely fresh air. The bathroom was really tiny, not too much room to move around, but all was clean. We had a very nice buffet dinner, followed by an excellent breakfast the next morning. Good free in room WiFi available. We had a very comfortable stay and I would be happy to return.

The up side is the central area for dining (had a fantastic evening meal here), bar and brand new spa facilities are good quality. It also has a good, genuinely high specification gym which is rarity in any hotel. We had two different bedrooms, the first was a long way from facilities and quite basic and the second was in the main body of the hotel and more spacious, both were clean and comfortable. Because it is vast it does lack that personal service and attention to detail but overall a great place to stay.

Room tip: Ask for room in the original part of the building rather than the extension.

We stayed at Scandic Lillehammer for one night with a tour in room 434, a quiet room at the end of a long series of halls. They provided a splendid buffet dinner with one drink each. The room lacked some of the things we are used to seeing. For instance, we had trouble keeping water from splashing out of the shower. There were no coffee and tea-making facilities, and there was no plug for the hair dryer near a mirror. The wi-fi was easy to use. Check-in and check-out were very easy, and the buffet breakfast was very good. The (very large) hotel did an excellent job handling many tour groups at once.

Five days in wonderful Norway and our accommodations have been great until now.

Cigarette smells greet you in the public areas. We arrive late and had a lovely meal. However, when we finally get to our room at 11:50 PM we have no towels.

The hotel is a bit tired, which you might expect in a private home B and B, but not a major hotel. The hotel is too huge to navigate even with luggage on rollers. Incredible that they do not offer any assistance personally guiding you to your room and helping you with your luggage. The front desk was remiss twice giving us verbal instructions to our room (not telling us to take one elevator to the second floor and then after a long, long walk along two corridors take another elevator to the fourth floor). Nothing was well marked and no map provided by the front desk.

On the good side, our dinner was well prepared and served by a lovely waitress. On the crumby side we were seated by the window; and even though the windows were closed guests on the deck just outside the dining room windows smoked and we could smell it. If you are allergic to cigarette smoke, ask for a table away from the windows.

It took twenty minutes to get our requested towels.

Go for dinner, but find a smaller, more personal hotel that understands what travelers need. You'll get to meet and talk with a local Norwegian which will make your trip much more memorable.
