Five days in wonderful Norway and our accommodations have been great until now.

Cigarette smells greet you in the public areas. We arrive late and had a lovely meal. However, when we finally get to our room at 11:50 PM we have no towels.

The hotel is a bit tired, which you might expect in a private home B and B, but not a major hotel. The hotel is too huge to navigate even with luggage on rollers. Incredible that they do not offer any assistance personally guiding you to your room and helping you with your luggage. The front desk was remiss twice giving us verbal instructions to our room (not telling us to take one elevator to the second floor and then after a long, long walk along two corridors take another elevator to the fourth floor). Nothing was well marked and no map provided by the front desk.

On the good side, our dinner was well prepared and served by a lovely waitress. On the crumby side we were seated by the window; and even though the windows were closed guests on the deck just outside the dining room windows smoked and we could smell it. If you are allergic to cigarette smoke, ask for a table away from the windows.

It took twenty minutes to get our requested towels.

Go for dinner, but find a smaller, more personal hotel that understands what travelers need. You'll get to meet and talk with a local Norwegian which will make your trip much more memorable.

We had a relaxing stay in the hotel. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

The breakfast choice was excellent catering for gluten free people.

The spa is very relaxing and a good selection of saunas are on offer.

The restaurant offers a delicious menu and selection of wines.

Reception was efficient, its a massive hotel.its a block checkin and they had all mets ready on our arrival. Has swimming pool. Ample car park.
Bed room again minimalist but better than other hotels in Norway.
My kudos to the chief of dining -MrJarle, a stern looking man but with a big heart and one who delivers his best. My vegetarian needs were attended to despite having an excellent assortment of food (presumably my best in Norway ) possible becos of the conference being held there. He is the walk the talk man who was seen going to table ensuring guests are happy -that personal touch goes a mile further. A very obliging person and an asset to the hotel. I believe his team is equally good.
Rooms were clean and tidy .we were there for one night only but i was happy with this place.

Room tip: Though my room was facing the car park it was not very noisy

The hotel is gigantic, that's a fact. And it's equipped for conferences, even if it is not easy to reach.
The real problem is how it is managed. Most staff member I got in contact to were young (and that's not a defect in itself), inexperienced, possibly stressed and consequently unpleasant. The reception is severely understaffed, both in numbers and in quality: a two-stars hotel is more efficient if manned by willing people.
I arrived at past 14.00 and my room was not available, no idea of when it would have been. That morning, in order to reach Lillehammer when I was expected to be there, I woke at 3.00, so I was understandably upset. At 15.00 - on my request - the young lady looked indolently at the PC and gave me a room. Five minutes after, I realized that she had given me a four-beds room (see photo). I was too tired to protest, and anyway I had to stay only two nights.
By the way, the bathroom had no current-tap in it, and in order to dry your hair you have to do it near the TV screen, using it as a mirror.
No desk, no minibar. I have never seen a room like that in a **** hotel, never.
The conference rooms are equipped, so no complaint about that...
Breakfast is good - it's evident that there is a rush of hundreds of people over there. Dinner was acceptable.
The top was reached at the moment of leaving the hotel. I had to take a train at 13.11, and the rail station is not exactly over the corner. I asked a (well-mannered) young guy at the reception the evening before departure to make sure a taxi would pick me up at 12.45. He said this was allright. In the morning I paid the extras of my room (which was prepaid by the organisation I'm a Board member of) and asked a young lady to check if the taxi had been ordered. It wasn't, but she took note. At 12.30 I asked if the taxi was coming, answer was yessir. At 12.45 no taxi was there, and if I would have lost the train, I would have been forced to stay in Oslo and take another flight the day after. I had to raise my voice and told the older female employee who was at the reception that I was not satisfied, and she told me that in Lillehammer things went this way.
I think I will not return to Lillehammer, but in this case I will surely choose another hotel.

The Lillehammer Hotel might be a big hotel but it has a relatively cozy and comfortable feel to it. Being a large hotel, it was also good to have good size rooms rather than like some big hotels that try to squeeze in as many people as possible with pokey little rooms. The rooms are also warm with the temperature at a comfortable level, instead of being too hot like some hotels in Scandinavia.

The service was also warm and friendly. The hotel's meals are hearty and flavoursome. I had a house red with dinner and, by coincidence, found it was an Australian wine grown about 20 kilometres from where we live.

Coming from Australia, we had a bonus when we woke next morning, pulled back the curtains and saw snow falling all around. It gave a magical appearance to everything in sight. I had taken a photo from our window the night before of the ski jump on the hill across from the hotel but the falling snow next morning was so thick we couldn't even see the ski jump.
