The hotel is gigantic, that's a fact. And it's equipped for conferences, even if it is not easy to reach.
The real problem is how it is managed. Most staff member I got in contact to were young (and that's not a defect in itself), inexperienced, possibly stressed and consequently unpleasant. The reception is severely understaffed, both in numbers and in quality: a two-stars hotel is more efficient if manned by willing people.
I arrived at past 14.00 and my room was not available, no idea of when it would have been. That morning, in order to reach Lillehammer when I was expected to be there, I woke at 3.00, so I was understandably upset. At 15.00 - on my request - the young lady looked indolently at the PC and gave me a room. Five minutes after, I realized that she had given me a four-beds room (see photo). I was too tired to protest, and anyway I had to stay only two nights.
By the way, the bathroom had no current-tap in it, and in order to dry your hair you have to do it near the TV screen, using it as a mirror.
No desk, no minibar. I have never seen a room like that in a **** hotel, never.
The conference rooms are equipped, so no complaint about that...
Breakfast is good - it's evident that there is a rush of hundreds of people over there. Dinner was acceptable.
The top was reached at the moment of leaving the hotel. I had to take a train at 13.11, and the rail station is not exactly over the corner. I asked a (well-mannered) young guy at the reception the evening before departure to make sure a taxi would pick me up at 12.45. He said this was allright. In the morning I paid the extras of my room (which was prepaid by the organisation I'm a Board member of) and asked a young lady to check if the taxi had been ordered. It wasn't, but she took note. At 12.30 I asked if the taxi was coming, answer was yessir. At 12.45 no taxi was there, and if I would have lost the train, I would have been forced to stay in Oslo and take another flight the day after. I had to raise my voice and told the older female employee who was at the reception that I was not satisfied, and she told me that in Lillehammer things went this way.
I think I will not return to Lillehammer, but in this case I will surely choose another hotel.
