Description: Most Welcome! To the "six legged lion inn", nowadays turned into a well known restaurant, the "Witwe Bolte". The old fashioned restaurant is situated in the famous Spittelberg district. The baroque building carries the inscription "Durch dieses Tor im Bogen ist Kaiser Josef II geflogen, 1778" which translates to ,,through this archway emperor Josef II was thrown out", a remainder of one of his infamous and notorious visits to the pub. Please enjoy our delicious Austrian specialities, our seasonal delicacies and our vegetarian viands. Some declare a gourmet heaven, where you can feel the historic atmosphere of the Spittelberg area while sitting calmly in our wonderful and well kept garden or inside in one of our rustic parlors and cozy snuggeries. A glass of our carefully selected red and white wines from all important Austrian wine regions completes every dinner and makes it an unforgettable experience. Bolte's restaurant The atmosphere in our main dining area can be described as typically viennese, with comfortably cushioned wooden chairs and benches, small intimate tables and lush decorated walls. Life is reduced to the simple joy of delicious food like a juicy Schweinsbraten (pork roast) or the famous Wiener Schnitzel (Viennese escalope), served with a glass of good wine from the Wachau region. You can experience our affection for detail in our various snuggeries. Please choose between the Lehrer Lampel Stube (schoolmaster Lampel parlor), the Rabenstube (raven parlor) or the Schneiderstube (dressmaker parlor), each referring to a character of the famous author Wilhelm Busch, as well as the Wilhelm Busch Stuberl

Nice authentic restaurant. There were four of us and we all enjoyed our dinners. The vegetarian choices were wonderful and the carnivores in our group were pleased also. The Austrian wine choices were plentiful and the recommended wine was perfect. It is a quaint, inviting place, plus there was a small Christmas market there during the holidays for after dinner strolling. Service was friendly and punctual. Pleasant evening.

Walked in on the off chance after visiting the busy Spittelberg Christmas market and staff managed to sort us a table even though they appeared to be full. The menu was interesting and had lots of choice of Viennese dishes with plenty for vegetarians. The food was really well presented and the wine list offered some really good, reasonable wines. desserts are delicious so save room!

Oh the smell... And the floors - thought of washing them?
Had to pay for every little extra. Little ketchup (size of soy sauce plate) for €2!

In the Spittelberg district and an interesting menu. English translation available and the cooking was, in our view, of a high standard. Good to see a range of Austrian wines at very reasonabale prices. Overall offering a good standard of dining at reasonable but not cheap prices.

Traditional atmosphere, the food is not cheap but quite reasonably priced for the very high quality (we paid 63 euro for a shared starter, two mains and four glasses of wine). Traditional Viennese food with a modern twist on some menu items, open late even on Sunday. Ignore the three star reviews below. If you want a cheap schnitzel in a hurry, don't bother.
